Page 10 TESTVÉRISÉG Church News - Hírek Egyházainkról Celebrating the 90th Anniversary of 3rd Avenue Calvin Reformed Church of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania Members and friends of 3rd Avenue Calvin Reformed Church of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, celebrated their 90th Anniversary on Reformation Sunday October 31, 1999. Reverend István Geczy and his wife Reverend Csilla Geczy led the service along with Right Reverend Louis Medgyesi, Bishop of the Calvin Synod UCC, who delivered the message on “The Fruits of the Spirit.” The following ministers also participated in the service - from Ohio: Reverend Imre A. Bertalan, Toledo; Reverend Frank Endrei, Cleveland; and from Pennsylvania: Reverend Daniel Borsay, McKeesport; Reverend Ilona Komjáthy, Pittsburgh; Reverend Alexander Jalso, Brownsville; and Reverend Joseph Posta, Laughlintown. The church service opened with a children’s sermon by Reverend István Geczy who explained how we can gain the fruits of the spirit by studying God’s word to develop the character of Christ. The beautiful Hungarian hymns and prayers made us feel close to our forefathers who established this little Hungarian church in Beaver Falls. The children 's sermon offered by Reverend István Geczy. After the church service, the group proceeded to the Villa Banquet Center for a festive program and dinner-dance. As the guests entered the room, the red, white and green tables were enhanced by the colorful Hungarian costumes worn by the many children who were in attendance. Each guest received a place setting card with a “Fruit of the Spirit” and scripture. Reverend Csilla Geczy also made a beautiful “torta” decorated with the fruits. The children were a delightful presence, and we especially enjoyed the young dancers of Branch 151 who performed a rendition of “Az a szép.....” Mimi and Jutka Borsay gave a lovely performance of traditional Hungarian Folk Dance and Song. As we enjoyed the wonderful meal, Slobodan Pesic serenaded the group with his violin. The only way to describe his performance is “breathtaking.” After the program and introduction of guests, Dorothy and Company proceeded to entertain everyone with their great renditions. From the wonderful church service where we worshipped together with our sister churches to the elaborate evening celebration, we thank God for His presence. We are grateful to the many delegates who came from our Hungarian Reformed Churches in Pennsylvania: Ellwood City, Duquesne, Pittsburgh, and McKeesport; and from Ohio: Columbus, Dayton, Toledo, Cleveland, and Youngstown.
