FRATERNITY Page 11 PENNSYLVANIAI HÍREK Minden szempontból nagy sikerrel végződött a Bethlen Otthon tizenkettedik évi piknikje, amit a nyugat-pennsylvaniai Református Egyesület osztályai rendeznek évente. Köszönet a sok segítő kézért, amelyek zökkenőmentessé tették a kiszolgálást egész nap. Akik ott voltak, mindannyian elégedettek voltak a sok finom étellel és itallal. A hangulatot a Dorothy zenekar biztosította. Nem volt hiány a kellemes szórakozásból. Szinte már hagyományos az, hogy a Pittsburgh környékbeli “öregfiúk” remek hangulatban, sok ölelkezés után, csak a késő esti órákban iparkodtak hazafelé. Ez évben is voltak kedves vendégeink az ország több részéből. A közös mukákból számtalan egyesületi tag és vendég példaadóan kivette a részét. Külön köszönet illeti Kovács Pál és Novák Miklós tiszteletes urakat az istentisztelet megtartásáért. Nagyon sok értékes tárgy került kisorsolásra, valamint a személyes adományok is emelték a tiszta bevételt, amelyet a Bethlen Otthon építkezési alapjára adományoztunk. Még egyszer köszönetünket fejezzük ki minden támogatónknak, akik széppé tették ezt a hagyományos összejövetelt, annak reményében, hogy 1999 július harmadik vasárnapján a Mória hegyén ismét találkozunk. Testvéri szeretettel Csornán Endre, titkár The 12th Annual Fraternal Day organized by the Western Pennsylvania branches was held on the beautiful grounds of the Bethlen Home in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. The proceeds of this successful day went toward the building fund of the Bethlen Home. We look forward to next year's Fraternal Day which will be held on the 3rd Sunday of July 1999. CHURCH and FEDERATION at THE BIRMINGHAM ETHNIC FESTIVAL The Calvin Reformed Church of Toledo, Ohio, combined with Branch 21, sponsored a booth at the Birmingham Ethnic Festival. Representing the Federation were Director Rev. Imre A. Bertalan, Branch Managers Mary Bacho and Ilona Szabó, National Secretary Endre Csornán and his wife Arlene, all of whom helped to man the booth. There were many Hungarian items for sale as well as promotional handouts. We had a particularly good location, since we were on the other end of the church food booth. The festival was spread out over six blocks of neighborhood streets. The flavors of the different ethnic cultures blended very well on this day. They were after all neighbors “fellowshipping” together in their own neighborhood. It is interesting to see how we can maintain the distinct characteristics of our heritage and yet enjoy the differences of many other nationalities. Truly, this inner city community of Birmingham (a suburb of Toledo) is a melting pot which is representative of so many inner city areas in the United States. The excitement and joy on the faces of the children and adults alike give me hope for the future as we come together as true Americans with a love for our ethnic background.
