FRATERNITY Page 3 PRESIDENT'S CORNER 100th Anniversary Celebration 1896 - 1996 One hundred years ago, the Federation was organized to protect and minister to the needs of its members and their loved ones. We give thanks to Him who has made it possible for us to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of our Federation. Local commemorations of this special occasion have been taking place since March of this year. The 100th anniversary celebration will culminate in Trenton, New Jersey, on September 15, 1996, one day before the opening of our 35th Quadrennial Convention. The celebrations in Trenton will start with a worship service held at the Hungarian Reformed Church on Home Avenue, on Sunday, September 15, 1996 at 3:00 p.m., followed by a reception at the Beky Hall. In addition to the delegates to the 35th Convention, we have invited the honorary members of the Board, retired field workers, employees, members of the Federation from New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Eastern Pennsylvania, the clergy, leaders and members of the Trenton and other Hungarian congregations. Among the honored guests will be Dr. István Mészáros, Bishop of Miskolc. His presence is especially significant because so many founding fathers and early members of the Federation emigrated from that region of Hungary. I extend a warm welcome to all our delegates to the 35th Quadrennial Convention, and I would like to express my sincere appreciation to our branch managers for work well done in adhering to the directives of the By-Laws as they pertain to the delegate election meetings. Member participation in the election process was good. There were just a few exceptions where a second election had to be called due to lack of a quorum at the first meeting. I am also happy to report that there were no irregularities reported. One hundred years ago, the Federation was organized to protect and minister to the needs of its members and their loved ones. It offered much needed monetary security to a family when the breadwinner died, a haven to the orphans, and medical security to those who needed it. Now one hundred years later, we look forward to carrying the ideals and responsibilities that our founding fathers laid down for us into the twenty-first century.
