Page 6 TESTVÉRISÉG FROM THE TREASURER’S DEPARTMENT Kossuth House was the setting for the Executive Committee Meeting of the Chesapeake State Fraternal Congress on Saturday, July 22, 1995. This congress was created “to accommodate a need for a regional state fraternal congress. It serves all fraternal benefit societies in Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia.” The HRFA has the distinction of being the only society with a home office in Washington, D.C. The business meeting agenda included officers’ reports, old and new business, and a guest speaker during lunch. Dr. Barron Maberry, an ordained minister/health educator/consultant, spoke on “Take Two Laughs and Call Me in the Morning.” He emphasized that the “gift of laughter and a positive spirit create positive people who create positive organizations.” Dr. Maberry is well-known to many fraternals in this area as a motivational speaker. To realize the benefits for body, mind, and spirit, he advocates that we “take this ancient prescription from the Book of Proverbs: ‘A Merry Heart Doeth Good Like a Medicine, but a Broken Spirit Drieth the Bones.’ ” Those in attendance enjoyed a tour of our home office, and were especially interested in the Kossuth memorabilia. Suzanne S. Virgulák, Treasurer THE HRFA PROVIDES FINANCIAL AID to a YOUNG LEUKEMIA PATIENT Six years ago we were informed that our son Dezső had leukemia. He had to go through three years of chemotherapy. After completing his treatments, he was in remission for two years. At that time, the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America gave us a generous gift to help us with our expenses. On November 11, 1994, Dezso’s leukemia came back. Now he has to go through three more years of chemotherapy and radiation. The treatments he is receiving now are more intense than before. We are hoping and praying that this time the cancer will remain in remission. Once again the HRFA gave us a generous gift to help us with our expenses. We greatly appreciate all the help and support we received. We are very grateful to belong to the HRFA. Thank you for everything. Edward, Ilona and Dezső Duerr
