FRATERNITY Page 33 This coming year, I will continue my rigorous course of study, as well as my work-study job. I will be a freshman seminar leader, an opportunity that will allow me to help orient the class of ’98, and that will also involve me in Atlanta area community service projects. (For example, this past year, through my freshman seminar, I helped tutor an inner-city elementary school class through Hands-On Atlanta.) If my schedule permits, 1 plan on participating in the musical production that is coming up this winter. I plan on becoming involved in the journalistic field again, either by joining Emory’s newspaper, The Wheel, or by gaining an internship to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. I would also like to begin to do volunteer work in Egleston Children’s Hospital, affiliated with Emory, so that I may get hands-on experience in the medical field since I am studying to become a pediatrician.” Victoria was recommended by Mrs. Eva Kiss, Branch Manager Mary E. Hlivak, Member Br. 22: “Driven by a love of creativity, I recently switched from Junior standing in Chemical Engineering to the more evolutionary Materials Engineering. Combined with studies, being an active member in several student societies, including the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and Society of Women Engineers (SWE), keeps me very busy during the school year. Most spare time is spent patronizing the arts through attendance at concerts, poetry readings, and the Butler Institute of American Art at which I am a student member. During the summer months, I have worked relatively full time analyzing swimming pool water for the Rhiel Supply Company. It is during this season that I get to devote time to my greatest love: nature. Climbing, hiking, and boating in my region’s natural wonders has motivated me to become a member of the Sierra Club to aid in the conservation of such beauty.” Mary was recommended by Mr. John K. Morey, V.P. on the Board of Directors Ildikó and Kalman Magyar, Members of Br. 13: “This is a letter of thanks to the Federation for choosing my brother and me to be recipients of the scholarship through the Student Aid Fund of the HRFA. As you know, I will be starting my first semester at the English Division of Semmelweis University of Medicine in Budapest this fall and the money will go towards funding for the expensive books. My brother Kalman is a senior at Duquesne University, performing with the Duquesne University Tamburitzans, a world famous Eastern European Ensemble, and will receive his accounting degree in May. He is applying to law schools in the New York and California areas and plans to study international or entertainment law next year. So as you can see, the money is being well used. Once again, thank you for your time and efforts. We are both proud to be a part of the American Hungarian community and will continue to be involved regardless of where our careers take us.” Ildikó and Kalman were recommended by former Branch Manager, Mrs. Wendy Tegze Paul Spencer Records, Member Br. 259: “I am currently a senior at Washington State University in Pullman, WA. I am majoring in biology education with a minor in zoology and chemistry. At the present time, I am volunteering to help students get their high school equivalency diploma. I enjoy helping people reach their goals, and look forward to a career in education after I graduate in May 1995. I plan to be teaching a variety of subjects which would include chemistry, physics, earth sciences, and biology. I also plan to coach track and field. The financial assistance provided by the Federation will go a long way towards helping me complete my education at Washington State University. It certainly helps to make the high cost of education a little easier to swallow. Thank you.” Paul was recommended by Mrs. Margaret H. Saltzer, Branch Manager Sandra L. Szepesi, Member Br. 134: “I would like to thank the HRFA for the academic scholarship I received. The scholarship will be used to help pay for my college education at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I am majoring in Physical Therapy and plan to receive my master’s degree in that field in 1997. In addition to my education, I work part-time at a local grocery Kalman Magyar Paul Spencer Records Sandra L. Szepesi Ildikó Magyar Mary E. Hlivak
