FRATERNITY Page 19 KOSSUTH MEGEMLÉKEZÉS INDIANÁBAN E z évben a Március 15—i ünnepség egyben megemlékezés is volt Kossuth Lajosra, 1848-49 eseményeinek kimagasló alakjára, halálának századik évfordulóján. Indiana kormányzója, Hammond, East Chicago és Whiting polgármesterei proklamációt adtak ki és március 20-át “Lajos Kossuth Day”-nek nyilvánították. A Kossuth Club a márciusi gyűlésén tartotta meg megemlékezését Kossuthról és Március 15-ről. Továbbá a Szabadságharcosok programján is részt vettünk a Szentháromság Templomnál. WHEREAS, WHEREAS, WHEREAS, WHEREAS, WHEREAS, WHEREAS, throughout history, countries have recognized individuals for their accomplishments, acts of courage and contributions to society; and Hungarians are justly proud to honor Louis (Lajos) Kossuth, who is revered as the "Father of the Hungarian Nation" and the symbol of Hungarian independence and democracy and who led the Hungarian war for independence; and in the Fall of 1848, he became the leader of the Hungarian Revolution and was elected Governor of Hungary in 1849; and Louis Kossuth was received by President Millard Fillmore and both Houses of Congress in 1851 and delivered more than 300 speeches to thousands of people in every state of the Union; and In his address to the Ohio legislature he stated, "The spirit of our age is democracy. All for the people and all by the people. Nothing about the people without the people." - 12 years later. President Lincoln paraphrased those words in the Gettysburg Address; and it is proper to officially honor this extraordinary man whose beliefs and deeds continue to serve as an inspiration to those who still struggle for freedom; and March 20, 1994 marks the 100th anniversary of his death; NOW, THEREFORE, I, EVAN HATH, Governor of the State of Indiana, do hereby proclaim March 20, 1994, as LOUIS (LAJOS) KOSSUTH DAY in the State of Indiana.
