Page 14 TESTVÉRISÉG MARIA POCS FELLOWSHIP DAY HELD in MATA WAN, NJ A memorable day in Matawan, NJ. T he St. George District and the combined branches of New Jersey held their second annual Maria Poes Fellowship Day on Sunday, August 7, 1994. On a resplendently beautiful day, more than 400 people went their way to the beautiful grounds of the Basilian Father’s Monastery in Matawan, NJ. Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Vitéz, from the John Calvin Magyar Reformed Church in Perth Amboy and the Very Rev. Joseph Erdei, Superior of the Monastery, gave the invocation in Hungarian and English respectively. Mrs. Elaine Convery led the assemblage in the singing of the American and Hungarian Anthems. Director Michael Pauli introduced President George Dózsa, who gave the welcome on behalf of the Federation and introduced Past President Rev. Imre Bertalan, Past Treasurer William B. Puskas and other visiting dignitaries. The perfect weather seemed to enhance the appetite of all as evidenced by the bare caldron which earlier overflowed with a delicious gulyás and the empty trays that once held the savory pecsenye and langos. Hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob, watermelon, draft beer and birch beer as well as coffee, tea and delicious Hungarian pastries rounded out the early afternoon menu. To satisfy the discriminating palate, revolving trays laden with Hungarian delicacies and a Cornucopia of fresh fruit was offered as a late afternoon repast. We were once again honored to have the Regös Group of the New Brunswick Hungarian Scouts, fully costumed, entertain us with two of their intricate dances. What a delight they were! Appearing on our program for the first time was the instrumental trio, “Our Gang” who played many favorite Hungarian songs. The impromptu dancing that took place on the nearest flat surface and toe tapping gave evidence to the enjoyment of the music by the people. According to a resolution made by the Board of Directors at their Spring Meeting, President George Dózsa presented Alex B. Eger, Jr., Esq. a certificate and plaque in addition to a monetary gift of $3,000. This action was taken to honor Mr. Eger for his 30 years of loyal and dedicated service as Legal Advisor to the Federation. Mr. Eger gave a very humble and appreciative thank you for the Officers, Members of the Board of Directors, and all those that he had the pleasure of Continued on page 15 President George Dózsa and Alex B.
