FRATERNITY Page 27 E.E. (AL) YARGO NAMED RECIPIENT of 1993 JOHN JORDAN UPCHURCH AWARD E.E. (AI) Vargo, FIC, National President of the William Penn Association, has been named the recipient of the 1993 John Jordan Upchurch award by the Pennsylvania Fraternal Congress (PFC). This is the highest honor bestowed upon a member by the PFC, an organization representing 800,000 members of fraternal benefit societies throughout Pennsylvania. The award was presented October 25, 1993 during the PFC’s annual meeting. The John Jordan Upchurch honors fratemalists who have distinguished themselves in service to their fraternal society, the PFC and the entire fraternal benefit system. It is named in honor of John Jordan Upchurch, recognized as the “father” of the fraternal benefit system, who organized the first lodge of a fraternal benefit society on October 27, 1869, in Meadville, Pa. Congratulations to Mr. Vargo for the much-deserved honor bestowed upon him.
