BRANCH 93 - WHARTON, NJ

A Szeretet Csomagjai

Látogatóban voltam a 82 éves nyugdíjas Bogdány Árpádnál és feleségénél. Hangulatos, meghitt otthonukban első látásra feltűnt a sok csomag.-Talán költözködni készülnek? - kérdeztem a házigazdát. Az elmosolyodott és így szólt - Szó sincs költözködésről, ezek a csomagok ruhaneműt tartalmaznak és Magyarországra küldjük őket.

Kezdett közelebbről érdekelni a dolog. Tovább kérdezősködtem. Kik hozzák a ruhaneműket és kikhez megy Magyarországon? Megtudtam, hogy Bogdány Árpád és felesége szinte amerikai tartózkodásuk kezdete óta foglalkoznak az otthoniak valamilyen formában történő megsegítésével. Az elmúlt években is átlagosan 12 nagy csomagot adtak fel. A ruhaneműt barátok, jó módú ismerősök hozzák. Olyan emberek ezek, akik tisztában vannak azzal, hogy adományaikkal egy kis európai ország nehezen élő rászorultjain segítenek. A ruhaneműt csomagolás előtt Árpád bácsi felesége Mária néni gondosan kimossa, elrendezi. Teljesen tisztán és használhatóan kerülnek a ruhadarabok a csomagba. Ezután következik a csomagok feladása. Évente ez több mint 800.00 dollár kiadást jelent az idős házaspárnak, akik ezt nyugdíjukból fedezik. Megható és példamutató cselekedet ez! Bár többen követnék!

Tudjuk, hogy otthon a több mint 40 éves diktatúra után nem könnyű a megélhetés, sőt a hírek szerint egyre nehezedik. A múlt adósságát a jelen kormányának és a népének kell kifizetni. Milyen jó érzés arra gondolni, hogy szegénysorsú családok, sok-gyerekes és idős emberek gondjain segítnek ezek az együttérző szeretetből készített csomagok.

A hittől áthatott szívből fakadó jótékonyság igazi keresztyéni cselekedet. Éltesse hát tisztelet Bogdány Árpád és feleségét Mária nénit, akik ezt cselekszik.

Steve Vajda, 93. osztálykezelö

The annual meeting of our branch was held on February 7, 1993. László Dallos opened the meeting at 3:00 P.M., and Steve Vajda offered the opening prayer. It was reported that our Branch Secretary Jolán Katalin Vajda earned her Associate of Science degree on January 31, 1993 from the Country College of Morris. Branch President László Dallos thanked the following members for their participation in helping the Florida Hurricane victims. Mr. Karl Both collected a small truckload of clothes and drove it to New Brunswick for the hurricane victims. Jolán Vajda took food and water to the Dover relief site. Many of our members sent financial support to help the Florida relief efforts. We are planning a dinner to benefit the Bethlen Home this coming year. Branch President Dallos is currently gathering donations to pay for 20 blankets to help “Feed the Children.” After reading the article titled, “Romániába Segély! Fajtám Trianonja! Tisztelettel a Hadifoglyok Bajtársi Szövetségének,” Steve Vajda recommended that we help our fellow Hungarian: Janos Nógrádi who fought in WWII as a Hungarian soldier and was badly injured losing both arms and one leg. He received no help from any Romanian organizations or the government. Our branch collected $100.00 to help this man. Elections for 1993 branch officers followed. Elected were: László Dallos, President; Anikó A. Vajda, Vice President; Steve Vajda, Treasurer, and Jolán K. Vajda, Secretary.

Refreshments were served, and the meeting adjourned at 5:30 P.M.

BRANCH 151 - BEAVER FALLS, PA

Christmas time again brought the annual celebrations for the members of Branch 151. On Sunday preceding Thanksgiving, the children again presented a lovely Christmas pageant at the Beaver Falls Ecumenical Service. The play was enhanced by the participation of our lay speakers who serve our church on a semimonthly basis. The inspiring Christmas music was further embellished by the wonderful solos presented by Linda Steffine and Stacey Bobbin. Each year, even though this undertaking becomes more difficult to produce, the results are remarkably more moving. We praise God for providing all of the elements needed to produce the glorious presentation of the Christmas message. We express our heartfelt thanks to the following members of the cast for their enthusiastic participation: Angel Gabriel:
