FRATERNITY Page 13 NEWS from the BETHLEN HOME It is a joyous opportunity for me to announce the good news: that after 14 years, as of January 1, 1993, we have re-purchased the former Children’s Home building. “Divide your happiness among others, and it will multiply”, the saying goes; I, therefore, wish to share our happiness with you all. The opportunity to re-purchase the Home presented itself at our last September Board meeting when “it was moved and seconded that the Bethlen Home purchase the former Children’s Home complex as an extension of its Senior Citizens’ ministries, following a favorable feasibility study.” The Feasibility Study Committee met on October 15, 1992 and reaffirmed the Board of Directors’ resolution “to purchase the former Children’s Home complex as an extension of its Senior Citizens’ ministry, but not to go beyond the price of $475,000.” Thus, as of January 1, 1993, this building complex which was known as the “Ligonier Apartments” was bought for $465,000 plus transfer expenses of $7,176.50. How interesting it is and what a blessing of our God to realize that 16 years ago when I started as Administrator of the Bethlen Home, we were in a desperate financial situation, operating in red. In 1978, the Children’s Home was sold. In 1979, the former printshop building was remodeled for administrative offices and conference room. In 1980, we started to build the Retirement Cottages. In nine years, we have built 20 apartments without any loans or mortgages, thus raising our assets to about $ 1,000,000. And, during those years, we have spent thousands and thousands of dollars to help start putting in proper order the collected Archive material. In the new 14 apartments presently known as the Bethlen Apartments, we have 17 residents. The apartments are mostly occupied by retired persons, among them are two 88 and three 90-year old people. May God bless our future endeavors, and may we continue working in His name and to His glory. Rev. Paul Kovács, Administrator of the Bethlen Home
