FRATERNITY Page 23 MARY BOTA 1924-1993 Julia requested us to use this photo showing four generations with Mary, from left to right: her granddaughter Melissa, her great-grandaughter, Erica Marie, and her daughter Julia. “I feel this photo best portrays my mother’s lifestyle and what she considered most important to her, ” writes Julia. Mrs. Mary Bota, 69, of Uniontown, PA died October 20, 1993, in Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, PA. Mary was born in Keisterville, PA on January 27, 1924. She was united in marriage to the late Emery Bota on December 26, 1962. Emery was also the former Branch Manager for Branch 152 of the HRFA. Proceeding his death on August 15, 1976, his wife, Mary, graciously accepted the duties of her late husband as Branch Manager, which she splendidly performed to the end while bravely battling a fight with pancreatic cancer. While serving as Branch Manager, several family members were grateful in receiving student aid provided by the HRFA, thanks to Mary’s belief in their educational abilities. These members included Laurene (Kirkland) Spear, Lisa Lynn Kirkland (granddaughters), and Vicki Williams (niece). Mary had a strong emphasis for a well- established education in the higher schools of learning and felt it important in maintaining a well-balanced life. She took great pride and interest in her family and their abilities in achieving greater knowledge through the furtherance of their education, from pre-school up through college. She demonstrated this belief through her love and support, and was a tremendous source of guidance and inspiration. Mary was also well known for her devotion to her fellow men. She exhibited great strength and ability in helping others by not only the devotion of her time, but also of herself. She also took a personal approach to her duties as Branch Manager. Many policyholders recall Mary taking interest in their children, as well as their own personal lives. To many of her clients, Mary was more than just an agent — Mary was their friend. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Uniontown, PA and was a faithful attender, along with members of her family, of St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, Uniontown, PA after the death of her husband. Mary was an exceptional source of courage, strength, and love and demonstrated a tremendous devotion to God, family and mankind. On behalf of those to whom she was a tremendous inspiration and to whom she left a profound and unforgettable impression upon, we say, “Thank You”, for touching our lives for such a brief moment in time. Preceded in death by: Lawrence Mazur (father), Anna Daniel Mazur (mother), Ignatius Mazur (brother), and Emery Bota (husband). Sadly missed but never forgotten by: daughter, Julia Ann Kirkland; grandchildren, Mrs. Kevin (Laurene) Spear, Melissa Kirkland, Lisa Kirkland; great-grandchildren, Erica Marie Pierce and Ronald D. Sethman; brothers and sisters, Edward Mazur and family, Mrs. Norman (Ann) Williams and family, John Mazur and family, and Stella Abell. (Our Director Rev. Alexander Jalso represented the Federation at the funeral service of Mrs. Mary Bota.) JOHN S. KOVÁCS JR. 1917-1993 John S. Kovács Jr., 76, of the Fords section of Woodbridge, passed away this year. He was born in the Keasbey section of Woodbridge and lived in Fords for 50 years. He was employed with the Carborundum Corp. of Keasbey before he retired in 1982 after 47 years of service. He was a member of the company’s 25 Year Club. Mr. Kovács was an Army veteran of World II. He was a sergeant in the 79th Infantry Division and participated in the invasion of Normandy. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Perth Amboy; he was the treasurer of the church for 40 years, and also served as a deacon and church council member. John was a member of and finder for the Perth Amboy Branch 80 of the HRFA. (Our Director Albert St. Miklosy remembers the days when John would collect insurance premiums for the Federation at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Kirkland Place, Perth Amboy, every Sunday for both him and for his father.)
