Ugyanazon a napon 1896- ban alakult meg a magyar református egyház első egyházmegyéje, amely prototípusa lett az Amerikai Magyar Református Egyháznak. (Szöveg: Kádár Ferenc, dallam: Gárdonyi Zsolt) ANNUAL MEETING OF THE CALVIN SYNOD Bold actions by Calvin Synod marked a surprising Annual Meeting at Ligonier, Pa., this May. The Bishop and Treasurer were re-elected, and then three new officers were elected to the Conference Council who do not speak Hungarian. Voicing their concern about the quality of church life in America, the delegates called for a convention of Hungarian Reformed people in 1992, supported reforms in the United Church of Christ, disapproved the ordination of practicing homosexuals, and then approved a larged synodical budget. The need for cooperative work at home and abroad led to authorization to join in an American-Hungarian Coalition for national work, synodical membership in the Hungarian World Federation, and participation in the II World Convention of Hungarian Reformed Churches in Hungary this year. Leadership of the Synod was entrusted for a second term to its Bishop, the Rev. Zoltán D. Szucs, pastor of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Lorain, Ohio. Another Ohioan from Dayton, the Rev. Raymond F. Kaiser, was elected Auxiliary Bishop. His background includes strong Reformation roots in the heritage of his native "Pennsylvania Dutch" family. Reflecting great appreciation for his work in restoring the integrity and soundness of the Synod's financial picture, the Rev. Lajos Medgyesi was reelected as Treasurer. He is the minister of the Fairport Harbor, Ohio, congregation. The newly elected General Secretary, the Rev. Albert W. Kovács of Woodbridge, N.J., is a native-born product of the Synod's churches, with Baptism and Confirmation in the Perth Amboy and Woodbridge churches.
