Page 2 TESTVÉRISÉG 1989 YOUTH GATHERING AT LAURELVILLE CHURCH CAMP IN PENNSYLVANIA The HRFA contributes yearly towards Church Youth Camps both in the U.S. and Canada. This year we contributed a total amount of $4,400.00 ($4,000 towards the camps in the U.S. and $400 in Canada). We also give a small donation to each camp participant who is also a member of the Federation. Our two directors, Priscilla Hunyady and Rev. Louis Medgyesi, headed the group of counselors. We encourage our youth to take part in this yearly get together for as Sandra mentioned below, "Camp lasts for only one week, but the memories last for a lifetime." Impressions of two participants: The week of August 13, 1989 found the youth of the Calvin Synod and the Youth Conference of the Hungarian Church in America once again united at the Laurelville Church Camp. The theme of this year's camp was, "Can I make it as a Christian teenager in the 1990s?" The topics of the different speakers dealt with teenage commitment, how we as teens deal with our social and academic problems, growth in teens both spiritually and physically, drugs, is it not time to realize where we are going wrong, and love, how we respect ourselves and others. The time spent at these discussions helped us learn more about ourselves and also of our goals in life. Leisure time was spent either swimming, hiking, or taking afternoon classes which consisted of Hungarian embroidery, Hungarian lessons, or bracelet making. Making new friends and spending some time with old friends is another part of camp. The youth came from several states and getting to know them made the meeting all the more interesting. On Wednesday afternoon, the entire camp went to the Bethlen Home, where we visited the elderly and also enjoyed the beautiful scenery. After touring the facilities, we were invited to the conference room where the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America issued a check to help support the camp. Not only does the Federation support the camp, but also the individual campers. THE YOUTH FELLOWSHIP OF THE HUNGARIAN REFORMED CHURCH OF DUQUESNE WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE FEDERATION FOR ITS SUPPORT AND CONTINUED INTEREST IN THE YOUTH OF THE CHURCHES. Following the meeting, the hospitality of the Bethlen Home shined bright as we were all invited to a cookout hosted by the Bethlen Home and Reverend Kovács. The food was delicious and plentiful—which we all know is an old Hungarian custom. THANK YOU REVEREND KOVÁCS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO SPEND WITH US AND PREPARING THE MEAL-IT WAS GREATLY APPRECIATED. A communion was held on Friday evening, attended by the entire camp. This is a very beautiful service which we all look forward to. Everyone who participated in our fun-filled but spiritual days knew the time was near to once again depart. On a note of sadness, we said our good-byes on Saturday morning and journeyed back to our homes looking forward to next year's camp and renewing friendships again. Wendy Peclet Church camp is a very great place to go because you meet many new people and learn new things. This year's camp topics were very interesting. Many things can be learned when these topics are discussed with the counselors and the other youth. Camp lasts only one week, but the memories last for a lifetime. The youth is very grateful for the support from the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, for without its help, many young people would not have the chance to attend camp. Sandra L.
