Page 12 TESTVÉRISÉG BRANCH LIFE — OSZTÁLY ÉLET BRANCH 21-TOLEDO, OH A meeting was held on November 1, 1987, and we had reports from the members who worked on the Birmingham Ethnic Festival. Our President, John Bistayi was Chairman of this event. Thirteen years ago our Birmingham neighborhood community, which for 97 years was an area in which the Hungarian speaking people settled, decided to organize a committee of people to further the development of our Hungarian culture and traditions, and assure us of the need to have,our children carry on and maintain our Hungarian heritage. The result of this effort was the creation of the Birmingham Ethnic Festival. We had our 13th Festival this year which attracted as many as 50,000 people from Toledo and the surrounding area. Many of our Hungarian people from distant cities in the country look forward to this event, since it has become a "Home Coming Get-Together" in which to meet and remember old times. Our Toledo Hungarian community is an area of about 42 square blocks. In this small area we have four churches. John Bistayi, Pres. The chairmanship of this event has been entrusted to me for the past 8 years. Trying to create new ways to keep our Hungarian culture and traditions alive and interesting to our younger generation is one of the most challenging part of this rather interesting Ethnic Festival. We also have a very active Hungarian dance group made up of 3 different age groups directed by Magdeline (Baba) Bertalan. She comes from Allen Park, Michigan, to teach the children. The dancers have many invitations to dance at many affairs in the area and this also lets the people know that we do have a large Hungarian population in the City of Toledo. Your support of our Festival Book each year is very much appreciated. We will have our election of officers at the next meeting. Mary S. Bacho, Secretary BRANCH 35—DETROIT, Ml A summer cook-out, szalonna sütés, held on Saturday afternoon, August 29, 1987, behind Fellowship Hall at the Hungarian Reformed Church of Allen Park, Michigan, was a great success. After a day of rainy weather, we had a beautiful day. The ladies brought delicious pastry, and the refreshments were enjoyed by all. Julie Bujdoso, Secretary BRANCH 62-EAST CHICAGO, IN Az őszi események fénypontja a szeptember 12 és 13-án megrendezett La-care Art & Folk Festivál volt. Ebben a tevékenységben a környező osztályok is részt vettek South Bend-ből a Modori házaspár, Chicago-ból Maloney házaspár, Merrilville-ből Simon Gyula és a 62-es osztály vezetősége, valamint azok az osztálytagok, kiknek a segítségére mindig lehet számítani. Házilag készített frissen sült kolbász szendvicset, diós-mákos kalácsot kínáltunk a festivál látogatóinak, azonkívül a Hessville-i Református templom szakácskönyveit is árultuk. Büszkén jelenthetem, hogy szorgalmas, segítőkész munkáskezekben nem volt hiány, ami a sikerhez szükséges. Az anyagi sikert a látogatók távolmaradása csökkentette, de az erkölcsi siker nagy volt. Hire futott, hogy vasárnap délután 4 órakor szerepel a magyar tánccsoport és mire elérkezett a szereplés ideje, a kedvezőtlen időjárás ellenére is sok magyar és magyar érzelmű vendég töltötte meg a nézőteret.
