FRATERNITY Page 3 FROM THE PRESIDENT HOME OFFICE The Executive Committee is diligently preparing a truck-load of important documents for microfilming. Old and space-consuming office machines ill be sold since they have been replaced by our recently purchased computer. Another significant effort on the part of the Executive Committee is to recover some of our large initial investment in Canada and to reduce the tax assessed to us as a foreign corporation. These steps would make our operation in Canada more profitable. STATUE OF LIBERTY We continue to urge individuals and our branches to make contributions toward the restoration of the Statue of Liberty. The Federation has pledged $10,000 to that end. We do this in memory of parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents who, when coming to America, were greeted by the Statue of Liberty — a symbol of freedom and opportunity in the new world. Exposure to the elements over the last 100 years has taken a severe toll on Lady Liberty. It is appropriate that we as Hungarian-Americans should participate in the restoration project. I know that you are aware that most of the funds for the pedestal of the Statue were raised by Joseph Pulitzer, a Hungarian-American, through his newspaper. Donations should be sent to the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, Statue of Liberty Fund, P.O. Box 917, Bethesda, MD 20817. All donations, whether individual or collective, will be matched by the Federation. Each donor whose name and address is included will receive a letter of appreciation from the Statue of Liberty Foundation. Our hason to the Foundation is Director Priscilla Hunyady. If you have any questions in this connection, she should be contacted at the following address: 50 N. Washington Ave., Colonia, NJ 07067, Tel: (201) 381-6413. The Hungarian Reformed Federation of America considers it a privilege to take a leading role in this great American project which will reach into 1986. 90TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FEDERATION Preparations for the 90th Anniversary of the Federation have already started. We have joined our church communities in supporting a concert tour of the Debrecen College Choir. Concerts are scheduled in Bridgeport, CT; New York, NY; Perth Amboy, NJ; Passaic, NJ; New Brunswick, NJ; Princeton, NJ; Washington, DC; Pittsburgh, PA; Cleveland, OH; Holland, MI; Hamilton, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, Canada. Our branches will assist in the promotional work in each respective community. In addition, church services and festivities celebrating our anniversary are being planned in the important centers of the Hungarian-American community for summer and fall of 1986. LIGONIER More and more applications are received by the Administrator of the Bethlen Home from members and non-members of the Federation asking for admittance to the Home. This is also true of the retirement village where new units are being added on to the already existing buildings. The people of the Bethlen Home are a happy family — thanks to the dedicated work of Reverend Paul Kovács and his staff. As of August 15, the Reverend Zoltán Kovács, as the new Assistant to the Administrator of the Bethlen Home, takes part of the load on his shoulders. However, his main task is the Bethlen Collection. I urge our Branch Managers to seek and collect any documentation in their community that may enrich this precious collection. Please contact Reverend Zoltán Kovács c/o The Bethlen Home, P.O. Box 567, Ligonier, PA 15658. On behalf of the entire family of the Bethlen Home and our Federation, I welcome Reverend and Mrs. Zoltán Kovács and wish God’s blessings on his work.
