FRATERNITY Page 21 If you are a regular reader of the Wall Street Journal, you saw one of our members featured in a full page ad placed by the Hamilton Standard Company. Louis A. Urban, senior principal engineer — Aircraft Systems of Hamilton Standard, was awarded the George Mead Award for Engineering Achievement for 1984. The citation reads: “For development of a powerful diagnostic system for gas turbine engines — known as gas path analysis — providing engine operators with a precise tool for analyzing performance parameters for maintenance purposes. This innovation yields important benefits to both military and commercial engine users in reducing maintenance and overhaul costs.” Mr. Urban received his B.S. and M.S. in Engineering from Columbia University. He has been for 31 years at Hamilton Standard Division of United Technologies Corp. in Design and Development of Aircrafts Gas Turbine Engine’s Controls. He holds 13 U.S. Patents on controls, control modes and diagnostic systems. Has taught at many technical seminars and has lectured literally all over the world on the preceding subjects. United Technologies is one of the largest U.S. Corporations with over 210,000 employees. “Since the George Mead Medal is a corporation award, you can see that the odds on winning it are pretty small and, in all humility, it is truly a great honor. In retrospect, the smartest thing I did to win it, and for which I have always thanked our Lord, was to pick the right parents.” Those “right parents” are the Reverend and Mrs. Joseph Urban. Reverend Urban served in churches in Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New- York City. Mrs. Urban lives near to her daughter, Dolly, the wife of the Reverend Aaron Elek, pastor of the West Side Hungarian Reformed Church, Cleveland. We extend our congratulations and our best wishes for continued success.
