PRESENTATION OF FIRST HERITAGE PRESERVATION AWARD

The first Heritage Preservation Award was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Orvos of Edison, NJ. The presentation was made at the 9th Annual Hungarian Festival on June 2nd in New Brunswick, in the Orvos Folk Art Studio. Through their own efforts they established a folk art studio where they have taught weaving, Hungarian embroidery, painting on fabrics and the many forms of folk art. Mrs. Orvos has conducted classes throughout central New Jersey and both of them have arranged innumerable exhibits throughout the state. Mr. Orvos has hand carved a “Székely kapu,” a Szekely gate and a cast iron bell stand. Through their efforts they have inspired others to become aware of their Hungarian heritage.

The Heritage Presentation Award will be given by the HRFA to citizens throughout our country, who have inspired and taught others about their heritage and was instituted in the spring of 1984. Arrangements for the presentation were made bv Branch 302 and Director George Dózsa.
