Report of the President to the BOARD OF DIRECTORS of THE HUNGARIAN REFORMED FEDERATION OF AMERICA for the year of 1981 Distinguished Members of the Board: Dear Brethren: The 1980 Convention bestowed upon me the great honor and privilege to be the President of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. On January 1st I assumed this office with a deep feeling of responsibility, hoping and praying that I can carry out the increased duties even though there was little familiar pattern to follow. 85th ANNIVERSARY The Anniversary celebrations gave me an excellent opportunity to get in touch with key areas of the field since our national promotional work was assigned to the office of the president by the 1980 Convention. Large scale observances were held in this chronological order: Washington, Buffalo, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Cleveland, Chicago, New Brunswick, NJ, New York City, Toledo, Pittsburgh-Duquesne, Toronto, Detroit, and Bridgeport. These observances assured me that the founding principles of our society are still alive! They are deeply rooted in church and community. There still is the potential of uniting the intangible concept of brotherhood with the tangible concept of Financial security and insurance need. Our founders realized this fact and at our beginnings, fraternal and insurance were one and the same. Times have changed and in our drive to compete with commercial insurance companies, we are tempted to lose sight of past principles and in doing so, we may cloud our vision of the future. In this difficult world, it is important for us to walk a fine line, balanced between being true to our founding principles of fraternalism yet open minded to modern insurance procedure. We are still here to serve the entire person with his insurance, cultural and religious need. Whether ‘we go’ the Consolidated way, or seek revitalization, these principles are our guide. HOME OFFICE The staff of the Home Office performed their duties well. Often the three National Officers were absent, on Consolidation business, for days, but the work continued to flow smoothly. It is with great sorrow that we report the death of Adrienne Vegh. The department carried on without a replacement. I take this opportunity to thank the entire staff for their unfailing devotion and hard work. FIELD FORCE During my extended travels a main objective was to meet with the field force and branch managers in the area. I would like to use this opportunity to thank our field representatives and friends for their support of the anniversary observances. At the same time I would like to assure the Board that except for a few cases, our field force is well respected by the community and they are anxious to continue to sell our ‘products’. They share our feeling that tackling today’s task with yesterday’s tools will almost certainly produce inadequate results. Our field force is ready for innovation! They welcomed the idea of the extended field force session which was held in Ligonier on August 21 and 22. The 17 field people present agreed that such sessions are helpful and should be continued. The new field members who joined us during 1981 are: Mrs. Irene Csordás, Ms. Zora Ludwig, Frank Demes, Mrs. Julia Palotay, and Mrs. Suzanne Virgulák. I am happy to report that there were no difficulties in finding new branch managers: Mrs. Irene Csordás 12 John K. Morey 22 Steve Vajda 113 Ms. Zora Ludwig 154 Mrs. Frances Szuch 197 Mrs. Irene Zaha 295 Mrs. Julia Tompa 394 Mrs. Susan Király 13 Mrs. Susanna Tamas 171, 245 Tibor Nagy 182 Rev. Szuch, and Mrs. Olga Darnay. New agent cards were issued to: Mrs. Patricia Morey, Rev. Stephen L. Nagy, and Rev. Zoltán A. Kovács. FIELD FORCE COMMITTEE The Board resolved at the fall meeting that a Field Force Committee should be appointed by the president. The members are: Vice President William Aros, Joseph Bakty, Charles Modory, Louis Szuch replacing Rev. Louis Illés, who tendered his resignation, and Joseph Tegze. The Committee held two meetings — the first on December 14, dealt with the $51,000 production system with special attention to the Eastern area and to the responsibility of Area Manager William Puskas, who had given instruction to the following: Mrs. Suzanne Virgulák, Mrs. Irene Csordás, Mrs. Julia Palotay and Steve Vajda. Those who participated in the instruction classes speak well of his training ability. The Committee will reach into other geographical areas and recommend improvements for updating the field. 5
