“HE IS RISEN!” In our unfortunate world, bent upon its own destruction, the trumpet call of the resurrection blares up again: “He is risen!” The hatred of the Pharisees, the fickleness of the people, the betrayal of Judas, the denial of Peter, the cowardice of Pilate, the mockery of the mob, the cruelty of the executioners, the terror of death, the grave of Joseph — all these were of no avail. Christ is risen! God is more powerful than men. Life is more powerful than death, and mercy is greater than sin! Let us think of this eternal message of Easter when the furies of sin run amock all over the world. Today, if ever, we need strength, we must be imbued with the very essence of the Gospel the key sentence of which is this: Christ is risen! Christ defeated sin and death, and damnation. Today, if ever, we have to put on the whole armor of God, that we may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. We are facing a period of enormous uncertainty and challenge. We were getting use to the annual one digit rate of inflation. For the next decade we are told to expect an annual two digit rate of inflation. This will affect the welfare of the elderly retired persons and our economy. We are experiencing an energy shortage. Until date we were unable to find a proper solution for it. The invasion of Afghanistan by the Soviet brought the two superpowers to a crossroad. Should the response of America be containment, registration, draft and the strengthening of the Army, Navy and Air Force? Will these policies lead us to confrontation and a risk of a nuclear Armageddon? These are the issues discussed by the presidential candidates of both parties in the state primaries. At Easter we should pray to God to lead humanity on his way of peace, human understanding, respect of human rights and bless us with a Spiritual armor. Do we know what the armor of God is? First of all, the love of the Lord’s house, faithful church attendance with which Christianity begins. Then, it is regular partaking in the Lord’s Supper, without which there is no remission of sins. Thirdly, it is the demonstration of our Christianity by our lives and deeds. I nless we help to make this world Christian we will perish with it. Believe then in the risen Lord!
