FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT entourage tlie Board of Directors to continue our portfolio policy of no commercial mortgage grants. Our ratio of investment income also increased impressively by almost half point. It indicates the soundness of our trend of investment during the past years. The trend of escalation should hopefully continue in the future. Our valuation ratio in 1978 jumped by almost 7 points. I am happy to report that the Federation lias reached its highest solvency ratio in 1978. In 1977 it was 112.08 and in 1978 it became 118.06. On November 26th we received the shocking news of the death of Rt. Rev. Dr. Bishop Zoltán Beky. He was the manager of our Trenton branch for many years. He was delegate of many conventions. He served as a Board of Director from 1952 to 1956; Vice-President between 1956-1964. Was president from 1965 to Marcii SI, 1977. I he 1976 convention elected him honorary president of the HRFA. On May 15th Mr. Elmer Izsák our chief agent in Canada died. He was a well liked and highly respected lawyer in Canada. Rt. Rev. Mathias Daroczy died on January 15th in Florida. He was manager of our Cleveland branch 352 for many years; delegate to many conventions and Board member. Mr. Joseph Arnosky started to work for the HRFA as Section Manager on January 1, 1957. During the past 21 years he worked for the Federation with dedication. During the year we lost the follow ing dedicated branch managers and agents: Dezső Bandi (138), Joseph Bardi (164), László Csorgo 1378), Joseph Nagy (113), Stephen Serres (378) and Mrs. Frank Torzsok (217). We also commemorate the memories of the 340 members who died during the past year. May their memories be blessed. 1 express my appreciation and thanks to Mr. Bela Toth, my secretary for his services and cooperation I bad the pleasure to count on. Respectfully submitted, ARPAD GEORGE, President Branch 153 holds meetings on every second Sunday of the month. Mrs. Irene Sakalo organized committees to visit the elderly members in the hospitals when they are in need of hospital care, in the nursing homes where they are intermediate or skilled residents and in their homes at times they are helpless. Another committee cooks dietary and Hungarian meals to the needy. Members in advanced age find it difficult to live on social security in our inflationary era. When a member of the branch dies Mrs. Sakalo organizes a car pool to carry persons to the funeral service and she also makes flower arrangements. Cooperating with the local Hungarian Reformed Church the branch sent $200.00 to the Bethlen Home and a $100.00 worth of Christmas Baskets to tbe members in tbe Bethlen Home. The members donated valuable gifts which were sold at the bazaar of the Bethlen Home. The proceeds of the bazaar is used for activity projects of the members belonging to tbe Bethlen Home. Miss Ethel Molnár, Board member and Mrs. Albert Bacho manager of our Toledo branch 21 organized a Hungarian booth at the 5th Birmingham Ethnic Festival held on August 19th. The attraction of the exhibit was the great variety of the Hungarian dolls. Many branch members participated in the Hungarian heritage exhibit project.
