53. The Convention under President Beky continued the session at 12:05 with the officers and recording secretaries present. 54. Secretary Arpad George announced that the Closed Session instructed that the minutes of the closed meeting to be turned over to the Recording Secretaries and to be made part of the Convention minutes. 55. The Committee recommended that Mr. Bela Toth, Secretary to President Beky, be commended for his dedicated, long and excellent service and expressed a wish for his speedy recover. Acknowledged. 56. Very Rev. Gabor Csordás reported on the resolution of the Closed Session of the Convention, as follows: CLOSED SESSION OF THE CONVENTION 10:45 A.M. JULY 1, 1976 Chairman: The Rt. Rev. Arpad George, Secretary Secretary: The Very Rev. Gabor Csordás Resolution No. 1 In recognition of outstanding past services the following retiring or retired office holders be elected as Honorary Members of the Board: Dr. Zoltán Beky, Mr. Emery Király, Mr. Stephen Syposs, Dr. Stephen Szabó, Mr. Paul St. Mik- lossy, Rev. Tibor Toth, Dr. Francis Ujlaky and Rev. Edmund Vasváry. Unanimously accepted. Resolution No. 2 In special recognition of their excellent services to the Federation, the following retiring or retired office holders shall receive the following Honorary Titles. Dr. Zoltán Beky, Honorary President Dr. Francis Ujlaky, Honorary President Mr. Paul St. Miklossy, Honorary Treasurer Mr. Emery Király, Honorary Treasurer Rev. Edmund Vasvary, Honorary Auditor Dr. Stephen Szabó, Honorary Vice President Rev. Tibor Toth, Honorary Vice President Mr. Stephen Syposs, Honorary Vice President Unanimously accepted. Motion No. 3 The Executive Committee moved and Rev. László Hu- nyady seconded the following motion:.The following rights would be extended to President Dr. Zoltán Beky as Honorary President: the right to be present and the right to vote at all regular and special meetings of the Board of Directors. Motion is lost. Resolution No. 4 Mr. László Eszenyi moved and Mrs. Rose Kovács seconded that the minutes of this Closed Session be written up by the Secretary and turned over to the recording secretaries of the Convention in order to be incorporated in the minutes of the Convention. Unanimously accepted. 57. Upon the motion of Rev. Desmond Parragh, seconded by Mrs. József Bakty the Committee’s report was accepted unanimously. 58. President Beky recessed the meeting at 12:17 P.M. 59. President Beky reconvened the plenary session at 2:15 P.M. 60. The report of the Fraternal Committee (Bethlen Home) was presented by the Rev. Kalman Csia. The chairman of the Committee William Aros. 61. The Committee recommends that the former printing shop building be the new home of the library and archive formerly housed in the Home for the Aged in order to fully comply with state and federal laws and regulations. Convention voted to refer this matter to the respective authorities and the Bethlen Home Directors for further study and implementation. 62. The Committee examined the books of the Bethlen Home and found all in excellent order. Acknowledged. 63. The Committee reported that the new wing of the Bethlen Home cost 517,138 dollars, the modernization of the old building cost 153,000 dollars, which sum also includes 12,557 dollars for plumbing, 4,774 dollars for the parking lot, 20,124 dollars for a sprinkler system and $35,797.87 for architect fees. The furnishings of the new building cost 20,000 dollars. The Convention acknowledged the report. 64. The Committee reports that the Home for the Aged including the new and the old wings, the rooms, dining hall and the nursing stations are all in excellent order. The Children’s Home is similarly in good condition. Acknowledged. 65. The Committee recommends that the Convention express its thanks and appreciation to Administrator Louis Nagy and to the former Superintendent Rev. Kalman Csia and his wife and to Mrs. Katalin Galantay for their faithful and excellent work in behalf of the Bethlen Home. 66. At this point Stephen Serres donated 50 dollars to the Bethlen Home and urged the delegates of the Convention to follow his example. 67. The report of the Administration and Organization Committee was presented by Very Rev. Gabor Csordás. Chairman of the Committee Stephen Syposs Vice President. 68. The Committee recommended that the report of the Secretary for the past four years be accepted and that he be released from his official responsibilities. The Convention unanimously accepted this recommendation. 69. Committee Secretary Csordás began reading the proposed amendments to the By-Lays of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, paragraph by paragraph. At the end of Article 3, Vice President Szabó inquired from the chair whether it was not the proper time to vote on Article 3, paragraph 24, that sets an age limit for the Board of Directors and the Vice Presidents. This time a motion was made by Mrs. József Molnár and seconded by Col. Walter Parker to delete the age requirement from paragraph 24. A secret ballot was ordered by the chair with the following result: 17 yes, to delete, 57 no, to retain the present text of paragraph 24. 70. Secretary Csordás continued the reading of the proposed By-Law changes to the end. The Convention unanimously adopted all the amendments and editorial changes to the By-Laws of the Federation on a motion by Rose Kovács and seconded by Rose Kőműves. 71. Vice President Szabó called on the Legal Counsellor to give an opinion on the new office of the Executive Vice President, and whether according to the newly adopted By-Laws this office would be in effect immediately or a later time. The Legal Counsellor replied that the office of the Executive Vice President is not a new position but it is actually the renaming of the Controller’s office and the redistribution of the office work load. 9
