THE REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT TO THE MEMBERS OF THE THIRTIETH CONVENTION of our Federation for the years 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975. Distinguished Members of the Convention! Dear Fellow Delegates! There are moments in our lives when our hearts feel heavy and our spirit is overcome in trying to find the appropriate words to express the intense feelings and emotions inside. This is exactly how I feel as I present to you Delegates my last convention report. I do not want to play on your emotions or to arouse your sympathy. The only thing I wish to emphasize is that it is very difficult for me to sever the ties with those whom you truly love, whom you felt loyalty to and whom you professed before God and man a life devoted to their service. My life’s main purpose, besides serving the cause of God and my family, has consisted of my committed service to our common treasure and inheritance: the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. I took the oath to uphold it, I pledged my allegiance to it and my life was based upon working for its progress and welfare. The Federation has become a part of my heart and life, and only death will finally part me from it. This time I give you my solemn promise that even without an official title, as long as God gives me the FRATERNITY Official Organ of The Hungarian Reformed Fed. of America Edited by Officers of the Federation Published quarterly — four times a year. Subscription for non-members in U.S.A. and Canada $2, elsewhere $3 a year. I am asking for your forebearance, but I believe that with the sacrifices, struggles and service of so many years, I had to make this personal statement in my last Convention Report as a token of my esteem toward my fellow officers, directors and convention delegates. RESULTS OF THE LAST ELEVEN YEARS Before reporting on the last four years may I note that eleven years ago, when I assumed the Presidency, the assets of our Federation were as follows: December 31, 1964 ......................................$13,554,463.82 December 31, 1975 ......................................$18,250,144.87 Increase .....................................$ 4,695,681.05 Insurance in Force: December 31, 1964 ......................................$44,560,999.00 December 31, 1975 ......................................$50,954,225.00 Increase .....................................$ 6,393,226.00 This was not due to me alone, credit belongs to the devoted and faithful efforts of our fellow officers, Board of Directors, District, Section and Branch Managers during the period. Thanks and praise to them from Almighty God. REPORT ON THE LAST FOUR YEARS It would not be easy to give account of these past four years even if they were a period of peaceful, quiet progress. Yet the last four years have been a period of human history full with crises, insecurity, fear and brutality. They touched all areas and fields of human endeavor. Political, racial and economic upheavals; the menacing progress of communism abroad and appeasement policy of our Government at home; the abandonment of more than 100 million people in Eastern Europe by the Kissinger-Sonnen- feldt Doctrine have characterized this period. At home, inflation, unemployment, moral decay, treason, poisoning of the minds of our children, aggravated crimes and the erosion of family and community life have undermined our national security. Under such trying circumstances it was indeed difficult to work constructively during the past four years. The Lord has been gracious to us and blessed our faithful work amid difficult circumstances and obstacles. Our Federation has attained such degree of development, strength and security that our hearts are filled with joy and thanks for the achievements. GROWTH AND RESULTS In order to prove our growth during the past four years, 1 want to quote some data in my report as follows: 6
