Rt. Rev. Árpád George: From the Office of the Secretary It was a pleasure to meet with our Eastern area workers on July 19th, Saturday afternoon in the Calvin Hall of Passaic, New Jersey. It was a very well attended meeting. At the meeting Mr. Andrew Kuri- mai and Mr. Joseph Molnár, Board of Directors, the Eastern Area Manager, Six Section Managers, eight Branch Managers and two agents were present. It was pointed out and unanimously agreed that a person working for the HRFA should be a dedicated fraternalist. He should have a firm conviction for fraternalism and be willing to dedicate his time and services toward the goals of the HRFA. love our country and have a humanitarian spirit toward our people. The Secretary introduced Mr. William Puskas as the newly appointed Eastern Area Manager. It is a new position. He will work on a trial basis in an experimental manner. He is well qualified for the job. Mr. Puskas was born in Szatmar county; graduated from the gimnázium in Debrecen; has a B.S. degree from Rutgers University; served in the U.S. Army for two years as sergeant, worked for eight years as Section Manager of the HRFA; is a member of the Hungarian Reformed Church in New Brunswick; served as officer and president of the Hungarian American Athletic Club in New Brunswick. His son William Jr., is studying law and will graduate next year. He will recruit new Section and Branch Managers and train them; audit branches in management changes; help and encourage the Section and Branch Managers in his area to meet their annual quotas. Mr. Puskas emphasized that he did not seek the position, but was offered to him twice. This time he accepted it on a temporary trial basis. He considers his position a challenge and encouraged every Section and Branch Manager to turn to him whenever they think that he could be a help to them. The Secretary held a session on the new rate book. Comparisons were made between the old and new plans, old and new rates. It was emphasized that all sales should be made within the framework of the family budget to satisfy the insurance need of the person and family. A special emphasis was placed on our new mortgage plan insurance which is really a modified decreased term insurance plan. The rates were figured on a 7V2% mortgage interest rate basis. A higher face amount value should be recommended when the interest rate exceeds the 71/4% interest rate. We were surprised to learn that in Canada the mortgage interest rates on homes are 10% and higher. The afternoon session ended witli a fellowship dinner where individual cases and problems were discussed. Witli Mr. Puskas the Secretary succeeded to have Mrs. Agnes Balogh and Mr. William Pandak to join our Field Force. They started to work for the HRFA on August 1st under an annual quota basis. Mrs. Balogh is a college graduate and works as secretary in the main office of the Hungarian Boy Scouts organization in Garfield, New Jersey. Mr. Pandak was born in Abauj county, worked on his farm until the Russians took him to a Russian work camp where he worked for three years under extreme poverty conditions. Following the Hungarian Revolution for Freedom, lie crossed the Hungarian border and emigrated to the United States. He learned the butcher trade at the company for which he is still working. He is a lay officer of the Hungarian Reformed Church in Trenton, N. J., and is the president of the Trenton chapter of the American Hungarian Federation. We are looking forward to their dedicated work for the HRFA, wishing them joy and success in their promotional activities. On June 20th the Beky family held a birthday party for the Rt. Rev.
