ship loans and by holding study contests. We aided the youth camps of our youth both in this country and in Canada. We aided our churches with loans. We have continued our works of charity. THE MODERNIZATION OF BETHLEN HOME AND THE NEW WING In spite of the poor economic situation we have completely modernized the old age home in accordance with the resolution of our Board and the requirements of the laws of the state. A new wing for thirty persons was built in addition to our Old Age Home. The two ventures will cost us more than $650,000. NEW CERTIFICATES Our new certificates, applications forms and rata-system are completed on the basis of the American mortality experience. It was so ordered by our Convention and our Board years ago. It was done with the involvement of experts, at a considerable expense. Our rate-system became competetive. Our new certificate are approved by the state authorities. We held a special training session for our field force on January 4, 1975 in Washington, D. C. We started to sell the new policies since January. PRINTING PRESS We were forced to sell our Bethlen Freedom Press in accordance with the resolution of the Board of the Bethlen Home and subsequently approved by our Board. The printing press ended its operation with heavy losses every year, which we had to pay out from the treasury of our Home. The machinery was sold to Mr. Sándor Chomos, manager of our printing press for $30,000.00 with that provision that he should try to preserve the name: Bethlen Press and the location should remain possible the same: Ligonier. All contractural relationship with him was terminated last April and since that time he rented our building. ARCHIVES As soon as the building of the printing press will he empty, we shall begin to prepare the plans for establishing a modern museum in accordance with the resolution of our Board and with the participation of the interested denominations. The purpose of our Museum will be to preserve and maintain the documents and other important objects of our American Hungarian Reformed heritage, which will he useful for those in engaging in research and special studies, e. q. doing dissertation work in related subjects. The State of Pennsylvania ruled that the former location was a fire-hazard and ordered us to vacate the premises immediately. In the first half of January all the materials were packed in large crates and were placed temporarily in the garage. The plans for the Archives will be submitted to the respective committee. BETHLEN HOME In addition to the previously reported facts, I am happy to report that the new wing of the Bethlen Home is ready and the modernization of the old building had been completed. Due to the illness of the Superintendent of the Bethlen Home the Building Committee couldn’t have been convened until March 21 and as I have already reported it in the Fraternity. The Committee has examined the buildings, and the financial statements and approved them. The Committee was indeed happy to report that our Old Age Home, our Nursing Home is today the most up-to-date and completely modern building which fully satisfies the requirements of the state and the wishes of its residents. DISTRICT MEETINGS We held district meetings in New Jersey, Ohio and Pittsburgh. On these meetings we have instructed our field force members of the new certificates, ratebook, application forms, which were also immediately distributed. Our Secretary gave a detailed report on these meetings. AREA MANAGERS Employing area managers and the reorganization of our entire field work was resolved by our Board meeting in September instead of employing of a national field organizer. THE MERGING OF BRANCHES Those branches which do not hold meetings in accordance with the requirements of IRS will be merged as the plans have been completed for such an action by the Secretary with the approval of the territorial directors. YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP CONTESTS We held our youth scholarship contest last year too. There were two first-prize winners: Miss Cornelia Mogor and Andrew S. Uzonyi, both winning $300.00 apiece. One price was paid by my wife, Mrs. Zoltán Beky, out of the proceeds from her cookbooks. At the same time she sent out many copies to the different branches. STUDENT AID We have granted student aid in emergencies in the value of one-hundred dollars. In cases where the student could not pay for his food, or could not purchase the books needed for his studies. In each IS
