TREASURER’S REPORT for the year of 1974. Participants of the Western Pennsylvania District Meeting Archbishop of Washington. The catholic clergy was also represented by Cardinal Patrick O’Boyle, Thomas Lyons and Eugene Marino bishops and Msgr. John F. Donohue chancellor. The Eulogy was given by the Very Reverend Dr. László Irányi, provincial of the Piarist fathers in America. Dr. Irányi quoted II. Cor. XI: 23-28 about the tortures Cardinal Mindszenty suffered during his imprisonment and the sacrifices he made for freedom. A special Hungarian memorial mass was held on May 18th, Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o’clock in the Washington National Shrine of Immaculate Conception. Fathers Irányi and Zalotai celebrated the mass. In the sanctuary were present Dr. Bishop Zoltán Beky, president of the HRFA and father Philip Majka representing the Polish Catholic Church. The Hungarian eulogy was given by father Zalotai and the English eulogy was offered by father Irányi. After mass in the Memorial Hall, the plaque of Cardinal Mindszenty was crowned and Bishop Dr. Zoltán Beky made a solemn address. Mr. Julius Völgyi spoke in behalf of the Hungarians in Richmond, Virginia and Dr. István Gereben made a farewell address in behalf of the Hungarian Freedom Fighters of America. The Mindszenty poem written by Tibor Tollas was recited by Master Richard Altorjay. The memorial service ended with the singing of the Hungarian National Anthem. The memory of the twentieth century champion hero for freedom will be kept alive by displaying the Mindszenty Freedom Flag dedicated last year in Chicago in all the communities Cardinal Mindszenty visited on his tour for freedom on the five Continents.
