8 FRATERNITY Our net dues income in the U. S. A. has increased by $16,636.00, as compared to $8,548.00 in 1964. This is the first year since 1962 in which we experienced a growing trend in the increase of net dues. The combined U. S. A. and Canada increase of $26,055.25 might point even to a more encouraging trend. Canada is included in the 1965 figure. $1,000.00 Insurance in Force During the Past Four Years 1962 1963 1964 1965 Assessment ..................................................$32.76 $32.60 $32.78 $32.08 Gross Dues ................................................ 33.01 32.42 31.81 31.77 The ever-growing number of non-dues paying certificates are primarily responsible for this downward tendency in the growth. Term insurance with high face value and relatively low dues assessment is another important contributing factor. During the year we have discovered a few irregularities in the branches oncerning dues collections, but we were always able to settle these differences without causing any financial loss or moral damage to the Federation. The overwhelming majority of our branch managers have carried out their demanding and sometimes even frustrating duties in a highly commendable manner. Experience shows that it is not always wise to assign managerial and organizational duties to the same person. This is especially true in branches with a large membership. A very fine underwriter might turn out to be a rather poor manager, and vice versa. I strongly recommend the separation of these tasks in branches where bad collection results and poor service to the members call for such changes. III.
