FRATERNITY 5 rest of your lives in the future”, we think it is rather humorous, but how true. Anniversaries are usually dedicated to relating and recounting things which have gone on before, recalling the past, reminiscing about what has happened. But I think an anniversary ought to be a time when we look rather to the future. Paul in his epistle to the Philippians, chapter 3, verse 13, says: “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended, but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.” It is good to remember the past, but the future lies ahead of us. So I say — the “A” in H. R. F. A stands for ‘‘‘Aspiration” and “Action”. We must constantly aspire toward higher and better goals. We cannot stand still. We cannot stagnate. We cannot be satisfied, with “status quo”. We are a large fraternal organization, but we can aspire toward the establishment of greater and better fraternalism and friendship. We can aspire towards the fulfillment of closer cooperation of all churches, representing various denominations in our midst. Anyone who looks constantly backward will have to content himself with the sad fate of Lot’s wife, who turned into a pillar of salt. If we look only to the past, as an institution, we become paralyzed and atrophied without any hope for the future. Our movement, therefore, should not be towards the past. Our movement should be in two dimensions: uproard and forward. Remember, that as we aspire to a better and brighter future, we can achieve it only if this motto remains a guide, and we adhere not to the letter of this motto, but to its spirit: “If God be for us, who can be against us!” MOTHER God thought to give the sweetest thing In His almighty power To earth; and deeply pondering What it should be, one hour, In fondest joy and love of heart, Outweighing every other, He moved the gates of heaven apart And gave to earth — A MOTHER.
