8 FRATERNITY lend credibility to the dream as it apepars. It happens that God takes dreams out of the hands of Satan and makes them so plain and direct that people may see open hints in them, may even repent as a result of these dreams. It is God’s secret why He does these things. Such dreams are equivalent to visions. Vision is a direct, prophetic message of God without the touch of Satan. No doubt, Satan has some way to look into the Universal Pattern God predestined and ordained, and he also has prophets, professional seers and witch doctors to be spies and to pry into the secrets of God. We don’t deny the authority and efficiency of psychotherapy and mental hygiene. We state, however, that the real cause of the chaos of the soul is much more a matter of relation to God than a matter of repressed emotions. Now, the question is emerging: Who is fit for interpretation of the dreams? The fitness of the interpreter is decided upon by God. This is a gift of discerning spirits. It is God’s discretionary power to select the vehicles through whom He makes the meaning of the dreams clear. He calls for this duty only those who belong to Him. To be sure, if Satan wanted to hide his identity and influence in the dreams behind symbols and fancy stories, the Lord is not going to entrust their interpretation to such who may betray Him. After having interpreted hundreds and hundreds of dreams, we came to the tremendously moving recognition: There are many more people living under the signs of the Holy Spirit than we may suppose; there are many more who are members of the Kingdom of God than any church statistical data would comprise; and that God is evermore so clement and enduring with our sins than we may justly hope for; and that He is much nearer to the broken-hearted than we think! SMALL TALK THE PUNISHMENT of wise men who refuse to take part in the affairs of government is to live under the government of unwise men. These are the words of the philosopher Plato who lived over 2,400 years ago. ★ ★ ★ LEO ROSTEN writes in his essay, “The Free Mind”, that “the purpose of life is not to be happy — but to matter, to be productive, to be useful, to have it make some difference that you lived at all.” ★ ★ ★ DID YOU KNOW that the slow driver is a greater menace than the fast driver? It’s true, according to Dr. James L. Malfetti, director of the safety research project at Columbia University. Dr. Malfetti came to this conclusion after studying the habits of 4,000 motorists. “The slow driver”, he said, “characteristically acts to impede traffic flow by blocking other motorists and fails to signal when changing speed and direction.”
