8 FRATERNITY The Insurance Department of the District of Columbia conducted its examination from April 1, 1963, to July 12, 1963, for the years 1960-61-62. The examiners audited all the books of the Federation. They checked the transactions authorized by the Investment Committee to see that they were in the interest of the Federation. They checked the documents in our mortgage files and counted the bonds in the safe deposit vault of the Liberty Branch of The National Bank of Washington (D. C.), and found everything in order. The Examination Report, dated July 12, 1963, prepared by Don M. Baldwin, Jack Klaben and G. W. Orr, examiners, was accepted by the Honorable Albert F. Jordan, Superintendent of Insurance, District of Columbia, on September 23, 1963. A copy of the approved Report is in our files. During the past three years the Federation sold the Kossuth House and the New York House. We acquired a building in Cleveland, Ohio, through the merger of the Cleveland Hungarian Young Men’s and Ladies’ Society, and the Flemington, N. J., property through a mortgage foreclosure. The Federation purchased a building in Detroit, Michigan, for a branch office, and a site for a new Kossuth House at 3216 New Mexico Avenue, N. W. During the time this building was under construction, the Federation’s offices was located in the Dupont Circle Building at 1346 Connecticut Avenue, N. W. While the n^w office building was under construction, the Federation’s officers made weekly visits to inspect the work progress on the building, and made necessary changes and alteration in the plans. On December 7, 1963, the offices were transferred to the new quarters. On December 20, 1963, we received the sad news of the death of our friend, Jack H. Zeitlin, who for nearly 40 years served our Federation as accountant and financial advisor. We regret this great loss. He will be long remembered and missed by our Federation. The Federation’s other loss is in our Legal Counsellor, the Honorable Albert A. Fiok, who has been elected Judge of the Common Pleas Court of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh, Pa. We are grateful for his many years of faithful service to our Federation, and ask that God will bless him in his new calling. The gradually increasing work of our department has been ably handled by Elizabeth Balazs and Zoltán Bottykos. I wish to express my appreciation for their faithful service during the past years. To my Fellow Officers and Home Office Employees I also extend my appreciation for their cooperation throughout these past years. I submit my report and hope that upon examination it meets with your approval and gains your acceptance. Fraternally yours, PAUL ST. MIKLOSSY, Treasurer
