6 FRATERNITY BOY FINALLY GETS DOG For as long as he could remember, 30-year-old Al Roselin had wanted a dog. But because his family objected, as a youngster he never got his wish. Even when a cute little stray followed him home, he couldn’t keep it. A1 vowed that if he ever had a son, he would have a dog. This year, that vow was kept. A1 and Nancy Roselin, and their year-old-son Joel, of Spring Valley, N. Y., became the proud owners of a handsome Dalmation pup, named Spots. The choice of a dog wasn’t an easy one, for there were many factors to consider. Joel was just a baby when the decision was made. At the suggestion of his experienced dog-owning neighbors, A1 wrote to the Purina Pet Care Center in St. Louis, Mo., explaining his problem. They sent him free individual booklets on how to choose, train and travel with the dog. Even a booklet on “Being a Good Dog Neighbor”. The Roselins finally decided on a Dalmation. As A1 points out, “we wanted a fairly large dog, since we live in the suburbs and have ample property. At the same time, we had to get a dog that would be good for Joel . . . good natured, gentle and patient.” In early spring, he started checking ads in the local newspapers and made a list of kennels near his home.
