2 FRATERNITY New Brunswick, New Jersey: We observed “Fraternity Sunday” in this large Hungarian Reformed and cultural center on June 24. It began with services in both of our Hungarian Reformed churches where our National Secretary, the Eastern Supervisor, Rev. Paul Ferenczy, and our New Jersey District Manager, Rev. J. L. Carey, preached the sermons both in English and Hungarian. The conference was then held at the Somerset Street Church which was attended by the field force and branch managers of our New Jersey District. The Secretary reviewed the four new plans of insurance to be introduced this year. An interesting discussion period followed with an exchange of ideas in techniques of salesmanship and promotional work. A part of the afternoon session was given to Mr. László Eszenyi, our National Controller, who instructed the branch managers about the new methods of reporting dues collections and the new regulations concerning deductions and claims. Our successful conference was followed by a Fraternity and Testimonial Dinner, also at the Somerset Street Church, at which occasion 10 of our faithful workers who served the Federation for 25 or more years were honored. They each received a certificate of recognition and a monetary award. The honored workers were: Bishop Zoltán Beky, Mrs. Margaret Kosa, Rev. Bertram Szathmary, Rev. Joseph Rasky, Rev. László Hunyady, Mr. Michael Jakab, Mr. Charles Kiss, Mr. Stephen George, Mr. Frank Demyen, and Mrs. Joseph Molnár, who received the posthumous award for her late husband, Mr. Joseph Molnár. After giving out the awards, the Secretary accepted a certificate in behalf of our Federation from the American Hungarian Institute, Rutgers University, recognizing the Federation as a special benefactor of Hungarian Studies in America at this well known state university. The award was presented by Prof. August J. Molnár, Chairman of the Hungarian Institute. The success of the “Fraternity Sunday” in New Jersey proves that such a gathering of our field personnel and branch managers is a very important key to the future progress of our Federation. Appreciation and recognition is due our New Jersey District Manager, the Rev. Leslie J. Carey, for his untiring efforts in organizing the details of the occasion, to his co-workers and to all of those members of our New Jersey District, who, by attending, made this a most memorable day. Chicago and Vicinity: The Hungarian Reformed churches in Illinois and Indiana, of the Magyar Synod, in cooperation with the branches of our Federation in the Chicago vicinity, held the annual “Hungarian Reformed Day” and “Fraternity Sunday” on July 1. The members of the eight churches from the Chicago area began the day with a combined open-air service at the Black Oak summer grounds. The sermon of the day was preached by our National Secretary. Other pastors participating in the service were the Reverends Arpad George, Arthur Ludwig, Dezső Parragh, Csaba Baksa and Sigmund Balia. Rev. Arpad Beretz, pastor of the East Chicago congregation, also attended. This fine Christian fellowship and fraternal gathering, as in the past, was again successfully arranged by the pastors and Federation workers in that area, serving the same charitable purpose: to donate the proceeds of the day to the Building Fund of our Bethlen Home.
