2 FRATERNITY JOSEPH KECSKEMETHY: ITEMS OF INTEREST WINS SCHOLARSHIP AWARD George Tihanyi decided he would like to be in the medical field in order to serve humanity and went right ahead to win a four-year scholarship to the University of Akron. George, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Tihanyi of 934 Silvercrest Ave., is graduating from the Kenmore High School in Akron, Ohio. He is an outstanding example of those students of foreign background, who through hard work and determination, achieve their goal and receive deserving recognition. Standing fourth in his class scholastically, George is business manager of the school newspaper, belongs to the National Honor Society, is treasurer of the Math Club, and is active in Hi-Y and the Science Club. George and his parents, who are members of Mr. Ernest Sala’s Branch 165 in Akron, came to the United States as displaced persons in 1951. Despite the language barrier, George applied himself diligently and proved his abilities almost immediately by reaching the top of his class scholastically and staying there. George has not forgotten his Hungarian heritage, either, and takes active part in local Hungarian events. He attends Church and Sunday School regularly, and has received several “perfect attendance” awards. His parents and grandparents, who are also members of our Federation, are indeed proud of George, and so are we, and with God’s help we are sure that he will do well in his chosen field. When asked the best way to achieve one’s goal, young George replied, “If you wish to succeed, work hard and study diligently. This doesn’t mean you should not have fun, but it does mean you shouldn’t neglect your work.” This is sane advice and it gets you places. So, Teen-Agers, heed this young man’s words of wisdom. It will get you places, too! ANNUAL BRANCH PICNIC Branch No. 4 of Cleveland, Ohio, will hold its annual picnic on Sunday, July 22, at the Kalo Farm in Bedford, Ohio. An enjoyable time can be anticipated by everyone because, in addition to the social pleasantries and fellowship, there will be tasty Hungarian foods served. In order to promote good will and strengthen fraternal ties, we cordially invite our branch managers and all members and their friends in Cleveland and vicinity to attend.
