FRATERNITY 13 CORNERED BUREAUCRAT A plumber from the hinterlands wrote to the proper Bureau in Washington, D. C., saying that he discovered hydrochloric acid to be excellent for cleaning clogged drains. A die-hard bureaucrat wrote him: “The efficiency of hydrochloric acid is indisputable; however, the corrosive residue is incompatible with metallic endurance and permanence.” The plumber wrote that he was glad that the Bureau agreed with him. The bureaucrat tried again: “We cannot assume the responsibility for the production of toxic and noxious residue produced by hydrochloric acid and suggest that you employ an alternate.” The plumber was again grateful that the Bureau agreed with him. Finally the desperate bureaucrat wrote: “Don’t use hydrochloric acid. It eats the hell out of pipes!” LIKEABLENESS Often we wonder why others do not like us. We are vain enough to believe that everyone should. The late Dale Carnegie wrote a book revealing his philosophy for winning friends and influencing people. Here are the most important points that he makes in his world famous book: 1. Become genuinely interested in others. 2. Smile. 3. Remember that each man’s name is, to him, the most important and sweetest sound in any language. Get it and pronounce it RIGHT. 4. Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves. 5. Talk in terms of the other man’s interest. 6. Sincerely make the other person feel important. COLLEGE ACCREDITED Bloomfield, N. J. —- Bloomfield College and Seminary here, which has been fighting to remain open for years, has been accredited for the first time by the Middle Atlantic States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. In announcing the accreditation, Dr. Lester H. Clee, acting president, hailed it as assuring the school’s continued growth. The college and seminary, sponsored by the New Jersey Synod of the United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America, has been carrying on an extensive expansion program. HUNGARIAN PASTOR JOINS WESLEY FACULTY Among others who join in September the faculty of the Wesley (Methodist) Theological Seminary in Washington, D.
