10 FRATERNITY PROBLEMS ABOUT SOCIAL SECURITY Question: My wages have dropped from $5,000.00 to $2,500.00 a year. Can I freeze my benefit? Answer: You can file a disability freeze application with social security if you are under age 50 and totally and permanently disabled. Question: I worked under social security from 1937 to October 1, 1957, when I became disabled and began drawing State Disability Insurance which expired April 1, 1958. I was 64 in May. What benefits am I entitled to? Answer: You should be eligible for disability insurance benefits until you are 65. Then you will be eligible for Old-Age Insurance benefits. Question: I am a widow with a daughter age 14. Will our benefits stop when she reaches age 18? Answer: Yes. However, you will be eligible again when you reach age 62. Question: May a husband draw social security benefits on his wife’s record? Answer: Yes. If he is more than fifty per cent dependent upon her. Question: My husband and I worked under social security since it started. He is 60 and still working. I am 56 and stopped working February 21, 1956.
