Washington, D. C. Emery Király, Dec. 10, 1958 Treasurer INCREASE DUE IN SOCIAL SECURITY Question: Can you give me any idea as to how much the increase will amount to in a specific case? Answer: The average increase will amount to approximately 7 per cent. Although the minimum increase to a retired worked will be at least $3.00, women workers and wives who elected to receive their benefits prior to age 65 will continue to receive a reduced amount which will also amount to about a 7% increase. Question: I understand that there will be an increase in the social security benefit I receive as a disabled worker. Will there also be an increase in the amount I receive for my minor child and the amount my wife receives? Answer: Yes. lincluded in all benefit checks received early in February for the month of January 1959 there will be an increase averaging about 7% for workers, but in many cases the increase for the dependents of workers will be less than 7%. This increase is the same for those persons receiving disability benefits as it is for those receiving retirement benefits. No application is necessary, as these increases are automatic. Question: My husband, aged 61, recently applied for disability benefits. I am 60. Am I eligible for benefits on account of my husband’s disability? Answer: If your husband draws disability benefit under social security, you will be eligible to draw benefits (at a reduced rate) when you become 62 years old.
