4 FRATERNITY LÁSZLÓ L. ESZENYI: “His song was only living aloud. His work, a singing with his hand.” (Sidney Lanier) EDE ZATHURECZKY 1903—1959 It was with a deep sense of personal pleasure that I started to write the article on EDE ZATHURECZKY for my series on American Hungarians of whom we have cause to he proud. Then — breaking the melody —• came the news of his untimely death. The string has snapped. The jubilant music has ended in my sold. At long last the struggle to integrate love of freedom, which was bred in him as a Hungarian, and devotion to a Hungary now destitute of freedom, had proven beyond, even his skilled musician's touch. The chord of life had been broken by the dissonance. We, and all the world, have lost a great musician, a noble man and a true Hungarian.
