FRATERNITY 17 evangelical humanism, in the translation of the Bible into the common tongue, and so of the Hungarian language as a literary medium. Gáspár Karolyi is the great name connected with the translation of the Scriptures. Before his day others had translated portions of the Bible into the Hungarian vernacular; but he translated The Vizsoly Bible The First Complete Bible in Hungarian Printed in Vizsoly (1590) the whole of both the Old and the New Testaments, publishing them finally in the year 1590. Since his day his great work has gone through over a hundred editions, and is the most widely spread book that exists in the Hungarian language. (To be continued)
