FRATERNITY 17 evangelical humanism, in the translation of the Bible into the common tongue, and so of the Hungarian language as a literary medium. Gáspár Karolyi is the great name connected with the translation of the Scriptures. Before his day others had translated portions of the Bible into the Hungarian vernacular; but he translated The Vizsoly Bible The First Complete Bible in Hungarian Printed in Vizsoly (1590) the whole of both the Old and the New Testa­ments, publishing them finally in the year 1590. Since his day his great work has gone through over a hundred editions, and is the most widely spread book that exists in the Hungarian language. (To be continued)
