10 FRATERNITY Kovats: Let me repeat the Hungarian hussars’ solemn vow: “Fidelissimus ad Mortem.” “Faithful unto Death.” History records that soldiers defending liberty and wounded in action never die, only fade away. This is my true story: After the battle of Charleston, where I was wounded by a bullet, I faded away unrecorded in history. Destined according to Magyar legend, I joined the spirits of my ancestors on the Milky Way. My journey was long, but when I arrived, the spirits of my ancestors gathered around to greet me and accepted me in their ghostly clan. Only those belong who died a heroic death defending their country and liberty. Suddenly they perceived that our Motherland, Hungary, had fallen victim to an enemy, strong with armed forces, enslaving our 1000-year-old homeland. Immediately all decided to assist the Magyar people restore the integrity of old Hungary. We shall return from the Milky Way to fight, and if it be needed, we shall die a hundred deaths again for the freedom of Hungary and her people. I, in the name of the avant-garde of my ancestors, return to plead our cause. (All from the Milky Way appear — filling the stage.) Our claim is based on the fair reciprocity that America will help Hungary restore its peace and liberty. Columbia: Colonel-Commandant Michael Kovats, your plea is indeed addressed to the people of America. It is just and right, and will be fulfilled! We, who cherish freedom and liberty, for * which you sacrificed your life in the Revolutionary War 175 years ago, will never forget your deed. GOD SO HELP US! . . . (All who are present, repeat the vow:) I believe in God, I believe in Right, I believe in the resurrection Of my land, Magyarország! . . THE END . .
