TESTVÉRISÉG 5 Secretary of Labor Tobin emphasized at the convention of this union that “our people are better off today than they have ever been in history.” The present and former officials of some unions certainly are. * * * PRESIDENT ÚJLAKI was the guest of honor at the tenth anniversary celebration of the Magyar Reformed Church in Detroit, Mich., of which the Rev. Tibor Toth is the pastor, on September 30, 1951. Secretary Borshy was pres­ent at the New Jersey Fraternal Congress in Newark, N. J., and at the National Fraternal Congress in Chicago. Treasurer Király and the writer of these lines took part in the 45th an­niversary celebration of the Cleveland, O., West Side Church, both of them having worked for years in this large and prosperous congregation, ably led by the Rev. Matthias Daroczy for the past 16 years. All these occasions brought together large and enthusiastic crowds which listened eagerly to the messages of the guest speakers, who always underscore the brotherly and friendly relationship between our churches and our Fed­eration. j lä * * * ONE OF THE MOST OUTSTANDING events in recent American-Hungarian his­tory was the audience which President Truman granted to the directors and offi­cers of the American-Hungarian Federation. This top organization of ours (Stephen E. Balogh, executive secretary) wished to ex­press the deeply-felt gratitude of all decent Hungarians to the President for his state­ment of Julv 27, 1951, concerning the mass deportations and bloody persecutions the people of Hungary are forced to suffer by the present terroristic regime, charging that “government” with “flagrant violation of the human rights provisions of the treaty of peace”, and for the enactment of the “Mutual Security Act of 1951” which, among other provisions, offers aid to those who escape to Western Europe from countries behind the iron curtain. The Chief Executive graciously received 19 leaders of the American-Hungarian Fed­eration on Friday, October 12, 1951, in the rose garden of the White House. He ac­cepted the memorandum, containing the words of gratitude, and assured not only those present at the occasion, but through them, every nation, that as long as he is President of the United States, he never will cease to work and struggle for a real and just peace for the whole world. * * * DON’T FORGET: December 4, 1951, will be the one hundredth anniversary that Louis Kos­suth, one of the greatest sons of the Hungarian nation who ever lived, arrived in New York as the guest of the American people. In every Hungarian colony there will be appropriate celebrations of this unforgettable event, especially in those cities which were visited by Kossuth during his American tour, lasting seven months. We should prepare our­selves mentally and spiritually for these unique celebrations, but at the same time it is our duty to financially help the American-Hungarian Fed­eration under whose auspices all these festivities will be held. Finta Sándornak, a két világrészben is hires los angelesi szobrászművész hazánkfiának min­den oka megvan, hogy büszke legyen családjára. Két évvel ezelőtt, pontosan 1949 október havá­ban érkezett meg a németországi egyik fogoly­táborból Finta öccsének fia, feleségével és négy gyermekükkel. A menekülők táborában eltöltött periodus után Finta Sándor és kedves neje ba­rátságos otthonában meleg rokoni otthont talált a hattagú család és összehasonlitva előbbi élet­módjukkal uj helyzetüket, valóságos paradicsom­nak tekinthették. A fiatal Finta-csemetéket, akik persze egy kukkot sem tudtak angolul, rövidesen megérke­zésük után beiratták az iskolába. Csodálatosan rövid idő múlva már annyira-mennyire elsajá­tították uj hazájuk nyelvét és ma már egyik Finta-sarjadék, legifjabb Sándor, a Farm Dale School nyári kurzusát oly kitünően végezte, hogy a Board af Education-tól külön elismerő levelet kapott. A hathetes tanfolyam befejezése után “Superior” osztályzattal jutalmazták a rendkivül tehetséges fiút, mely osztályzat még az “ex- cellent”-nél is jobb. Sándor nővére, Erzsiké is dicsőséget hozott a családra. Elsőrangú tánc-tehetség és egy isko­lai táncünnepély alkalmából nemcsak egyedül lejtette a magyar “palotást”, de betanitotta tanulótársait, sőt még az osztály tanítónőjét is, akik magyar nemzeti viseletben járták az ünne­pélyen a hires magyar táncot A Finta-család ifjabb ága nagy hálával vi­selkedik most is, amikor már önálló háztartá­sukban élnek jótevő nagybácsijuk: Finta Sándor és neje iránt, akik persze viszont méltán büsz­kék a családra uj dicsőséget hozó rokonokra. Mi is szívélyesen kívánunk további szeren­csét és dicsőséget valamennyi Fintának!
