TESTVÉRISÉG 9 PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS* Man, seeking his happiness is always running after these three desirable things: Richess, beauty and fame..- If we do not want to be hypocrits, we should confess that we all would like to have richess, beauty, and fame... And it is true, also, that all these three things can help us to get nearer to our goal, happiness... but can not insure our happiness by themseives... Carole Landis the famous actress, who killed herseif a few- months ago was thought to be a happy woman, since she had plen.y of money, a beautiful home, plus a natural beauty and fame ail over the world. Tne world was mistaken, she was not happy for she killed herself. What did she miss?... She showed it herself, lying on her bathroom ficor, holding in her hand a ribbon with embroidered words of the Lords Prayer. Her life was empty of the victorious faith in Jesus Cnrist, whose prayer sne held in her dead hand. Her tragic end is just one of the million and more warnings of God that we are not just flesh, but soul, also. And it is not the body that makes the soul happy, but vica versa, the believing soul radiates the happiness into our whole being, even if our riches, beauty and fame are very little... If you belong to those few people who can learn from tragic example, then, you wnl reconsider your attitude toward the church, God and will not neglect your soul. (Akron, O.) Stephen Kovács REPRESENTING PRESBYTERY* Our 160th General Assembly will soon convene at Seattle. Confronting the assembly will be major issues calling for intelligent Christian decisions. Not only our church, but Chris danity throughout the world, will be affected by what we do. Mr. Average Commissioner at General Assembly is bewildered by the magnitude and complexity of the work of the assembly. He has not appreciated the extent and number of the churcn’s organizations and enterprises. He has not read up on the agenda of the assembly. He is concerned that he vote wisely on every question, and he has a feeiing of responsibility toward his constituents: also he has a concern for what is fellow commissioners think of him and his opinions; yet, through his lack of experience of General Assembly operations and his unfamiliarity with the issues before the assembly, he is badly handicapped in his task of interpreting and voting intelligently on each issue. I suggest that, in order to make commissioners better acquainted with the business before the next General Assembly, each presbytery of our church devote part of its spring meeting to a consideration of the main issues found in the Blue Book. This could be done through a panel discussion or seminar presented before presbytery by a group of selected leaders. Following the panel there could be open discussion by all the members of presbytery. Through this procedure, comissioners will learn what their brother presbyters are thinking on *By the Rev. James W. Harris, associate minister. First Church, Lincoln, Neb. the issues which are to come before General Assembly. There would be distinct advantages for laymen in this project. We pastors have too often failed to let our laymen in on the work of the church. The personnel of the laymen changes with each meeting of presbytery. Elders need to understand that, if they are elected as commissioners to the General Assembly, they are expected to represent their presbytery, not just their local church. And it ought to be the obligation of presbytery to help the commissioner elder to understand this responsibility. In carrying out this plan our characteristic Presbyterian system of representative government will become more truly representative. Mélyen tisztelt Elnök Ur!
