14 TESTVÉRISÉG osztályok 1942 dec. 31-iki taglétszáma alapján fog megállapittatni. g.) A számfejtő utasittatott, hogy a Betegsegélyző osztály számára uj szabályzatot terjesszen a közgyűlés elé. Ezeken kivül számos kisebb jelentőségű ügy intézésére adott utasitást a gyűlés s elfogadta a titkár által beterjesztett költségvetést. Adományok a hazának Az Amerikai Magyar Szövetség által kezdeményezett ambulance akció kapcsán $2,500.00 adományt szavazott meg a gyűlés, olyképen, hogy abból a Kossuth amerikai látogatásának emlékére a hadi tengerészeinek egy teljes felszerelt ambulance ajándékozandó Egyesületünk nevében. Ezen felül pedig $500.00 adomány juttatandó a Vörös Kereszt céljaira. Dr. Kerekes Tibor, az A. M. Sz. jelenlevő ügyvezető titkára a háláját fejezte ki azért a támogatásért, melyben Egyesületünk a Szövetséget kezdettől fogva részesítette. Kisebb, közigazgatási jellegű határozatok után a gyűlés március 21-én, szombaton d. u. 2:30-kor, hat napi munka után befejeződött. A jegyzőkönyveket Vasváry Ödön számvevő vezette s azokat Dr. Újlaki Ferenc elnök és a Vt. kijelölt tagjai hitelesítették. AZ AMERIKAI MAGYAR SZÖVETSÉG KÜLDÖTTSÉGE A KÜLÜGYMINISZTÉRIUMBAN Annak a határozati javaslatnak következtében, amely a Roosevelt elnök születésnapja alkalmával tartott országos ünnepségek keretében, az Amerikai Magyar Szövetség new yorki ünnepségén fogadtatott el, a washingtoni külügyminisztérium behívására március 13-án pénteken délelőtt ll:30-kor, az Amerikai Magyar Szövetség képviseletében megjelentek. A. A. Berle helyettes államtitkár ©lőtt Dr. Kerekes Tibor, ügyvezető titkár, Dr. Márk Béla igazgatósági tag és Dr. Újlaki Ferenc igazgatósági elnök helyett BorsJhy-Kerekes György. A küldöttséget Dr. Harold B. Hoskins külügyminiszteri osztály-főnök vezette be az államti kánhoz. Az ismeretes és az Amerikai Magyar Szövetség igazgatói által sajátkezüleg aláirt határozatot Dr. Kerekes Tibor nyújtotta át, amelyet a h. államtitkár Roosevelt Elnök nevében vett át azzal az ígérettel, hogy azt az Elnöknek személyesen fogja referálni. Ezekután az államtitkár közvetlen eszmecserét folytatott a küldöttség tagjaival. Kihangsúlyozta azt, hogy semmi kétsége nincs afelől, miszerint az amerikai magyarság túlnyomó többsége a legteljesebb hűséggel viseltetik az Egyesült Államok politikája és háborús céljai iránt. Különös örömének adott kifejezést afölött is, hogy a jelek szerint, az amerikai magyarság tökéletesen tisztában van az Atlantic Oharter-ben lefektetett elvekkel, amelyek szerint Amerika végső győzelme biztosítani fogja a mai világszerte elnyomott nemzetek szabadságát és igy a magyar nemzet függetlenségét és demokratikus szabadságát is. Ennek következtében — mondotta — egészen természetes is, hogy az amerikai magyarság bekapcsolódva az amerikai nemzeti egység keretébe, ott dolgozik és áldoz a végső győzelemért. PROCLAMATION BY THE AMERICAN HUNGARIANS TO THE PEOPLE OF HUNGARY BRETHREN! Your relatives in America speak to you. We are free to talk. Our country does not seal the lips of its citizens. We have a right to ask you to listen to us. For years we have sent gitfs to you. We sent you money, clothing, and food. After the first World War we sent Hoover kitchens to save starving Hungarian children. We have never asked anything in return. But now we do. Do not permit the thousand years of glory that are Hungary to perish, that Hungary which is your country and which remains dear to our hearts. Do not endure the yoke of German oppression. The Nazy tyranny sends thousands of your sons to their death. Throughout your land your wounded are nursed and your dead are mourned. Your children are starving. You have no bread because the Nazis have stolen your harvest. You have no lard, no meat, and your clothes are barely fit for rags. And tomorrow will be even worse. The Nazis said a thousand times that if they win, you will be enslaved by the "master race.” But they will not win. Human liberty cannot perish. Twenty-six nations have united to free all the people of the earth from slavery of the dictators, and they have sworn to regain your freedom, your security, and your prosperity. This includes you, also, Hungarian brethren. Have faith in this promise because the salvation of Hungary can come only from the United States. Hungarian Brethren! Do not get more enmeshed in Nazi slavery. Do not serve the eternal enemy of Hungary. Do not give soldiers, food, ammunition to the Germans. Stay at home. Consume yourselves what you produce, or hide it. But give nothing to the Germans. Should the revengeful tyrant cast one of you in prison, or if execution should be the lot for some of you, remember, it is better to die the death of a martyr than to allow the destruction of the entire Hungarian nation, the whole of Hungary. Do not fight against your freedom, your independence, and a better future for your children. Wait with faith, .patience, hope; the hour of freedom is not far off. We will come with the advance units of the liberating army; the soldiers, we, your kin, Americans of Hungarian origin, will bring you liberty. We will invade Europe to defeat the Germans. Therefore, do not shoot our sons. Put every obstacle in the path of the Nazis. Keep your gunpowder dry and sharpen even your scythes. We are counting on you. Wé expect you to join our ranks as one man and to help us to annihilate the German oppressors with the .righteous fury and Indignation of the humiliated Hungarian people. The United States and the twenty-six United Nations will wipe the dictators off the face of the earth. And we will again .stand by you, helpful and friendly. If you don’t have bread, we will send It to you. If you don’t have clothes, they will come to you from us. We will take care of You. But you have to do your share. NOW! AT ONCE! The Lord will help you if you help us. Resist the Nazis, and do not allow your free country to remain a Nazy colony. April 8, 1942 Washington, D. C.
