OUR LOYALTIES

— AMIK IRÁNT HŰSÉGGEL TARTOZUNK —

As children of God we owe loyalty to God, and to a conception of ethics and life based upon a fervent and sincere belief in Him. The divine command and promise: “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life,” cannot be placed second to any command of human origin. Nor can our stake in eternal life be jeopardized for any temporal and mundane gains. Believers of all ages and places held into this exiomatic principle. It is our motto, too, and we are ready to reaffirm our loyalty to it under any circumstances.

As members of our church, we owe loyalty to our church. It is that part of Christ’s great Church Universal through which we are destined to become incorporated into the Body of God’s elect. It is the fairest flower of all our efforts, without which all our achievements Avon id remain incomplete. It is our most indispensable credential, which introduces us in our best form and character. It is our highest contribution to bringing life in and around us closer to the Kingdom of God. It is God’s gifts to us, and our united thank-offering to God. Everything that is noble and worthwhile in us, urges us to a more sincere appreciation of, and to an increased loyalty to it.

As citizens of the United States of America, we owe a loyalty and allegiance to the United States of America. There can be no “ifs” and “huts” concerning this dictum. The country in whose grounds the foundations of our church and personal lives are rooted, must be loved and is loved by us. It makes very little difference with us whether we are believed on this score or not. We have a clear conscience. We made God the guardian of our oath of allegiance. It is too sacred with us to

Mint Istennek gyermekei, hűséggel tartozunk Istennek és az Ő benne vetett őszinte és buzgó hitre fundált erkölcsi felfogásnak és világnézetnek. Ezt az isteni parancsot és Ígéretet: “Légy hű mindhalálig és néked adom az életnek koronáját,” nem lehet alárendelni semmiféle emberi eredetű parancsnak. Sem pedig örök sorsunkat nem kockáztathatjuk ideiglenes és világi előnyökért. Változhatatlan irányelvként igy vallották ezt minden idők és minden helyek hívői. így valljuk azt mi is és vagyunk is készek vallani bármily körülmények között.

Mint egyháztagok, hűséggel tartozunk egyházunknak. Krisztus egyetemes egyházának az a darabja az a mi számunkra, amelyen keresztül az Isten választottainak seregébe besoroz- tatunk. Legnemesebb törekvéseink kivirágzása az s nála nélkül minden teljesítményünk fogyatékos volna. A legnélkülözhetetlenebb bemutató levelünk az, amely legjobb s legelőnyösebb mivoltunkban mutat be bennünket. A legmagasabbrendü hozzájárulásunk az ahoz, hogy bennünk és körültünk elközelegjen az Istennek országa. Istennek ajándéka az a mi számunkra és ugyanakkor a mi hálaáldozatunk Istennek. Minden, ami bennünk nemes és értékes, arra ösztönöz, hogy igazabban értékeljük és fokozottabb hűséggel vegyük körül azt.

Mint az Amerikai Egyesült Államok polgárai, hűséggel tartozunk az Egyesült Államoknak. Azt az országot, amelynek talajába templomunk fundámentomai és személyes életünk gyökérszálai gyökereznek, szeretnünk kell és azt szeretjük is. Reánk nézve lényegében nagyon kevés különbséget tesz, hogy e tekintetben hisznek-é nekünk az emberek vagy nem. A lelkiismeretünk tiszta. Mi Istent tettük polgári hüségeskünk őrévé, igy annak megszegése a mi szemünkben szentségtörés. Akit rávisz a lelke,
