484 MALCOLM BT'RR Wings very prominently produced. Feet dirty yellow. Abdomen very finely punctulated, the sides parallel, the lateral tubercles somewhat faint ; last dorsal segment smooth, quadrate, with a fain median impression, stronger in the 5 than in the cf , veryfaintly tuberculate over the insergition of the forceps. Pygidium in t?ie cf prominent, star-shaped, the sides laterally produced into sharp spines, the apex deeply emarginate with each angle produced into a spine, forming a star-shaped lobe ; in the 5 much less prominent, rounded, simple. Forceps with the branches cf slender, nearly straight, gradually incurved, three-sided at the base, armed on the inner margin at the base with three small sharp teeth, of which the one nearest the base is the stronger; in the J somewhat stouter, excavated near the base interiorly, then stouter, almost straight the apices incurved, unarmed. The forceps are clothed with long fine pale hairs. Malacca : Kwala Lumpur, 1 cf ( B ÍRÓ ). New Guinea : Erima and Stephansort, 1896—97, 2 5 ( B ÍRÓ). This species resembles Sparatta australica almost exactly in the shape of the pygidium, but the pronotum is too broad to permit its being ranged in that genus ; in the shape of the pygidium it approaches Ch. semifulva, but differs entirely in colour, & the more slender forceps ; the peculiar shape of the pygidium easily distinguish it from the other species of Chaetospania ; in colour & the shape of the forceps it resembles Ch. Juppiter BURR, & in the shape of the forceps it also resembles Ch. Feae BORM. Genus XYI. CHELISOCHES SCUDD. 49. Ch. australicus (LE GOUILLOU). — Australia borealis. 1 cf. 50. Ch. pulchripennis BORM. — New Guinea : Simbang, Sattelberg, Erima (BIRO). 51. Ch. morio (F ABR . ). — North Ceylon, YI. 1899, 1 5 (FRUHSTORFER). New Guinea : Sattelberg, Simbang, Erima, Mt. Oertzen, Mt. Hansemann, Stephansort, Friedrich-Wilhelmshafen ( B ÍRÓ). The aboveare of the typical colour, with various shades of variation in the shape of the cf forceps. Of the shades of the chestnut-brown äriety there are, New Guinea: Simbang, Erima, Stephansort, Ins. Deslacs ( B ÍRÓ). 52. Ch. Feae BORM. — New Guinea : Simbang (BIRO). 53.
