PAGE 4 FIGHTER ABOUT FACE AND FORWARD! A LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, Lyndon Baines Johnson February 1, 1968 Dear Mister President: I am writing you these lines at a time when world events seem to have slipped from the control of the leaders of mankind, and when humanity seems to stand at the threshold of world catastrophy, at a time when it has become apparent that we must act quickly against communism, if we do not wish to be destroyed. We Hungarians experienced the same tragedy a few years ago — that is now threatening to engulf the entire world. We proved that time, that there can be no peaceful coexistence with Communism. It seems, that the world has forgotten the Hungarian lesson. What is the reason for this fact? What is the reason for the fact that communism, hated by all of humanity, is still gaining victory after victory in every sector of the globe? The reason is simple and clear: The United States has been steadily retreating before the Communist onslought ever since the time of F.D. Roosevelt! Ever since the time the United States recognized the red murderers as equals, everything has been going to the Communists! It was the constantly retreating, Rooseveltian policy of the United States that replaced the yoke of slavery on the Russian people in 1945! It was the ever retreating Rooseveltian policy of the United States that handed Eastern Europe and China over to the reds, after the Second World War. It was as a result of this constantly retreating Rooseveltian policy of the United States that the Anti-communist intelligensia of Eastern Europe were exterminated, having been handed over as "nazis” to the red execution squads. It was this policy that brought the United Nations into existence on American soil, an organization that has been faithfully fulfilling its task as spokesman of red propaganda in the United States. It was this policy that led to the murder of General Patton, the suicide of Forrestal, the defeat and firing of General MacArthur, the moral and physical liquidation of Senator McCarthy and the removal of General Walker from his post. This policy gave away the secret of the atomic bomb to the Reds and In national-security affairs, the President leans heavily on top advisers, Secretaries Rusk and McNamara, Special Assistant Rostow. (US News & World Report). gave them enough time to produce and test such bombs. This policy saved the reds from starvation, every time internal strife was ready to sweep the Soviet system from existence, even in Russia herself. This policy permitted the Reds to drown in blood the German, Polish, Hungarian, Tibetian, Chinese and Russian revolutions! This policy makes possible the role of the Cyrus Eatons and other traitors and makes the work of Anti-Communist leaders and organizations impossible. Mister President! It is time to do an about-face! It is time to save America from Communism! It is time to rid the Rooseveltian spirit! We believe, that you have the good intention, but you are surrounded by bad advisors! There are many examples in history, in which wellmeaning leaders and ill-willed advisors led their nation into catastrophy! Today, the communist are trying to drown America’s freedom in the Red Sea of coexistence, without war. You have probably often wondered, why your plans, ideas and orders are not successful. The American people, too, are wondering why there is such a great gap between your speeches and your actions! Mister President! One cannot defeat the enemy byretreating before him! You cannot defeat Communism with Rooseveltian advisors! The strength of the Reds is not in their nuclear bombs but in the weakness and constant retreat of the people of the free world! With a billion anti-communists behind him, the Soviet will not start — cannot — a war against the world! They hope to reach world conquest with American help! The Reds have to be destroyed! If they are not, they will destroy America and America’s Freedom! Mister President! Never before in the course of the world’s history has one man had so much power in his hand as you have today. Use this power! Announce a policy for bringing freedom into the world! With at least as much courage with which the Communist have announced the communization of the world! Help in all possible ways the people in communist slavery in their fight for freedom! Send at least as much arms, ammunition and propaganda material behind the Iron Curtain as the Communists do to Vietnam, Laos, Cuba and the rest of the world, to help their allies! Open a diplomatic war on the Soviets! Let America throw out the spies and agitators who are here under
