80 , Szemészet Supplementum I. Comparison of the results of treatment with emedastinedifumarate (0.05%; Emadine) and olopatanol (Opatanol) in patients suffering from allergic conjunctivitis Györgyi Munkácsi,1 András Szigeti2 1Private Ophthalmology Practice, Szombathely 2Semmelweis University, Budapest, Department of Ophthalmology Aim: to compare the efficacy of emedastine-difumarate and olopatanol eyedrops in alleviating symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis, on the basis of clinical symptoms and tear total IgE-level. Patients and methods: We divided a series of patients suffering from SAC and РАС type conjunctivitis into two random groups. We measured tear total-IgE level in all patients in both groups, and also recorded the subjective symptoms. For treatment, the first group was given emedastine-difumarate eyedrops twice daily, and the second group olopatanol eyedrops twice daily. After 14 days follow up, we compared the subjective symptoms, and repeated the tear total-IgE level measurement. Results: Both the antihistamine-targeted and the mastocyte-stabilising eyedrops alleviated all subjective symptoms, and this was in correlation with a significant drop of the tear total-IgE level. In case of the group using olopatanol the relief of subjective symptoms was more significant than in the emedastine-difumarate group; however, the drop of tear-total-IgE level showed no significant difference between the two groups. Conclusions: Olapatanol eyedrops alleviate all subjective symptoms of allergic reaction more quickly and more significantly than do emedastine-difumarate drops.
