Hungarian National Medical Centre, Department of Ophthalmology, Budapest This lecture will give an overview of the most common cause of proliferation on both surfaces of the retina and within the vitreous gel. The presentation will attempt to aid in understanding the principles of treatment, as well as providing some details of its implementation. The speaker has considerable experience in this area, having performed more than 1500 interventions, and having also carried out some experimental work in the field of proliferative retinopathy. Consequently he is able to put the data from the literature in perspective, and supplement it with his personal ideas. What can be said in conclusion? Better understanding of the pathobiology of these diseases has led to improved surgical techniques, resulting in an increase in the rate of successful retinal rehabilitation. A kezelés protokollja évek óta ismert és kellő klinikai tapasztalat gyűlt össze. A vitrectomia térhódítása, a technikai feltételek, a műtéti módszer tökéletesedése módot nyújt arra. hogy bizonyos szigorúan körülhatárolt, a sugárkezelésnek biztonságosan nem megfelelő esetekben, a sebészi is lehet a választható gyógyítási módszer. Két eset kapcsán ismertetésre kerül az indikáció kérdése, a műtéti kivitelezés mikéntje és az egyéves követési idő alatt elért eredmények. Vitrectomy in cases of melanoma of the choroid Salacz G. Semmelweis University, 2nd Department of Ophthalmology, Budapest Radiation therapy (using a ruthenium beta-emitter, or proton beam and diode laser) is a successful treatment for lifethreatening melanomas of the choroid, in indicated cases. The protocol of this treatment is well-established, and much clinical experience has been accumulated. More recently, new developments and advances in surgical technique using the pars plana approach for intraocular disorders make a surgical treatment possible in melanoma cases not suitable for radiation therapy.
