139. évfolyam (2002) Supplementum II. 103 i Severe visual loss following benign histiocytosis-X Masszi, Ágnes, Cseke, Péter Dept, of Ophthalmology, Hospital of Sopron Purpose: A case of a severe visual loss following benign histiocytosis-X is presented and analysed. Patient and methods: A supracranial mass was removed from a 12-year-old girl. Progressive visual loss and optic disc oedema was seen after one year. Histology confirmed xanthogranulomatosis histiocytosis. At the first consultation in our Department we saw signs of optic nerve atrophy. The right eye had light perception only, and the left had one-meter finger-counting. After consultation with the National Neuro-ophthalmic Centre in Budapest, a systemic chemotherapy was begun. We analyse the course of disease, and the diagnostic and therapeutic methods and treatments. Results: The process was stopped by the systemic chemotherapy, and the patient reported subjective improvement. Conclusion: After having arrived at the correct diagnosis, the progressive visual loss was effectively halted by application of chemotherapy as recommended by the appropriate sub-speciality centre. Fertőző Osztály, Győr Harmincéves nőbeteg mindkét szemén nagyfokú látásromlást okozó centrális chorioretinitis lépett fel klinikailag biztosan varicellának látszó kiütéses betegségben, amit később a szerológia nem igazolt. Mindkét szem visusa és fundusképe feljavult per os és parabulbarisan adott szteroidkezelésre. Következtetés: Aktív vírusinfekció ellenére a szteroidterápia acyclovir védelemben hatásosnak bizonyult varicelliform centrális chorioretinitisben. The appearance was typical for varicella, but serology failed to confirm: our suspicion. Visual function and clinical appearance of both fundi showed improvement after oral and parabulbar administration of steroid, which has proved to be effective in severe central chorioretinitis. 31 Augustus 2002
