58 Szemészet Esetünket a sérülés igen ritka előfordulása, és az egyértelmű diagnózis esetén időveszteség nélkül elvégzett sikeres műtéti megoldás miatt tartottuk ismertetésre érdemesnek. A case of isolated injury to the musculus rectus inferior Nazáth, Lívia, Korompai, Károly, Várhegyi, Zsolt Dept, of Ophthalmology, B.-A.-Z. County Hospital, Miskolc The authors present a case report concerning a rare injury of the eye, the isolated and direct rupture of the musculus rectus inferior. A male patient aged 45 had been injured by a rebounding piece of wire, the impact of which had caused a direct effect on the musculus rectus inferior. The ophthalmic examination unambiguously showed an isolated injury of this ocular muscle, while the integrity of the bulbus was preserved. We performed an operation during which we succeeded in locating the central muscle stump, and were able to restore its integrity by suturing. The effectiveness of the muscle reconstruction has been confirmed not only by a CT scan, but also in practice by the disappearance of the patient’s diplopia. We consider the case worthy of publication first because of the infrequent incidence of this injury, and second to report the successful operative outcome; in this case the intervention could be carried out without loss of time, due to the unambiguous diagnosis.
