must be very delicate; microsurgery offers the optimum protection against excessive mechanical trauma. Special care must be taken for the protection of the endothelium. d) The use of appropriate suture material must be mentioned as an important factor of ultimate success. Monofilament 10/0 Nylon suture is accepted as the best to be used rutinely. e) Steroid therapy constitute a mighty weapon in the prevention and treatment of the graft rejection syndrome. Timing, dosage and routes of administration, are of the outmost importance in order to achieve a maximum of effectiveness. It is important to bear in mind that very rarely a single factor is the cause of graft failure. There are usually two or more, acting by themselves or synergistically, potentiating other factors of minor importance, which constitute the cause of poor results. On the light of this fact, every facet of the whole procedure of corneal transplantation, must be considered very carefully, in order to achieve the best in prevention and treatment of graft rejection syndrome.
