Data to the Evolution History of the Largest Szekler Commonage (Abstract) The first known documents referring to Székhavas in Maros District appear in the 16th century. In their number there were a remarkable increase during the 17th — 18th centuries. The name of the common properties as ’the Alps belonging to the Salt’ dates back to 1581. Although we don’t know any title-deeds from the time before the 16th century, from the donation documents and especially from the protestations against donations and from ancestral documents of title we have found a few data referring to the prehistory of common properties. From the title-deeds and from the memorials marks all that donations couldn’t let wholly title deed. Warrants and legal action documents show very clearly that grants hardly assured complete property rights. They didn’t limit the logging of the forests, which was free according to the common’ nature of the propriety; they assured only privilege for the usage of pasture-lands and very valuable acorn forests. This explains that, while settlements and possessive noblemen accepted without objection the grants and distresses which were not against any of the already evolved ancestral rights, they responded with armed attack to the village deployments which resulted in the loss of the most valuable parts of the common properties. 93
